If I read the article correctly, the poison is selective to act on CATS, not other mammals. That would be responsible.
Didn't Australia have a rabbit population issue not so many years ago? Like 30-50 yrs?
The poison mentioned in the article is the generic "1080"... it's generally used to control kangaroo/wallaby populations (after fencing, even culling has failed to work). The sausage is simply the 'vehicle' to introduce the poison to a carnivore.
Yes, the rabbit problem is still a problem but it 'comes and goes' as the feral population becomes immune to the latest strain of "Khaleesi Virus" that's released.
