If I read the article correctly, the poison is selective to act on CATS, not other mammals. That would be responsible.

Didn't Australia have a rabbit population issue not so many years ago? Like 30-50 yrs?

The poison mentioned in the article is the generic "1080"... it's generally used to control kangaroo/wallaby populations (after fencing, even culling has failed to work). The sausage is simply the 'vehicle' to introduce the poison to a carnivore.

Yes, the rabbit problem is still a problem but it 'comes and goes' as the feral population becomes immune to the latest strain of "Khaleesi Virus" that's released.

Lol bunyip.
I have dogs. They go to sleep at night. Our neighbour has cats. They hunt at night. They have proven to be very destructive of the native birds.
One good thing we have is the fierce owl. They love cats....

We used to have a fox terrier, never saw a cat, she hated them, she died a few years ago but I think the word is still out in catville, haven't seen one in years at home.

We had a cat which hated dogs, and once put a big Irish Setter on the run after he followed us home on our bicycles. Then one day my uncle, aunt, and cousins stopped by with their little beagle; and it was the cat which was sent running.

On a recent visit to some cities in Germany, I see some heaps of wheat in corners of some streets. I asked what that was all about and was told the wheat has been treated with a contraceptive to control the pigeon population. In fairness there didn't seem to be many pigeons about so maybe this was a good idea.

The small Wisconsin town that my business is in has a feral cat problem. There are two major run down properties with buildings about to collapse that are cat havens. These properties are adjacent to mine and I see cats night and day roaming around. When we had an addition put on our building, some of these cats got into our basement and had to be live trapped out. One of the neighbor ladies feels sorry for these cats and feeds them. It is nothing to see 15 - 30 cats lounging around her place. We never see any birds or squirrels, just cats. The sandy ground and pine needles along with the horse shoe pits make for a fine litter box for these creatures to leave treats for us to find. If my dogs are out with me the cats will flee (or die). So far the dogs have gotten 3.

I'm not a cat hater, I actually own one that stays in the house. Left unchecked, feral cats are a real problem. The town is now addressing this problem and we'll have to see what happens next.

I知 in total agreement- we need to 鍍ake action against the invasive non native killers?!!!

BTW- I知 amazed I can get WiFi on the Reservation in this teepee.

Probably time for reparations too!! Garfield and Felix have way too much money- they need to give that to the natives!

 did we say this is the like button?

That is a great point, and valid; I should have been more clear in that I see the melting of the Earth's permafrost to be the next " great catastrophe " around the corner.

I guess it's just important that you have a misunderstood/imagined catastrophe to rail against that demands trillions of dollars be thrown at.

Yet that ship sailed a long time ago; we are such a dominant presence on the planet that it would be hard not to have an impact. Personally I believe that all of the problems we see, whether real or imagined, are simply the planet taking care of itself. It's supported life for much longer than we've been around and most likely will continue to do so long after we're gone.
