When I got my Yanmar, single cylinder, it had not been run in years and there was no fuel tank. It started almost immediately without me doing anything.

I believe, that I never even put the return hose into the tank. It is just out in the open but never sheds a drop of fuel. Kind of strange!

WOW.. I have a generator teck coming on Monday I hope he can help..??

Is your machine a clone of this?

I was right. You can see the return hose flopping around, where the recoil starter went. Never a drop.

This rig will fire right up after not running for months in minus 10c.

Just grasping at straws here. Maybe an issue with the decompression system. Maybe some seal went bad. Mine coughs, sputters and smokes like crazy for the first minute and then smooths out. I mean, there is no idle. The poor critter is expected to make 3600 from cold!

Update on my no start problem.. Fuel was the problem from the beginning or so that is what the generator teck said. I showed him what I drained out when I cleaned the petcock and he said that it looked bad and would cause it to not start. After I cleaned the petcock and put in a new filter with new lines I still couldn't get it started. I went to u tube to see how to get the air out " the link I got from here" . I guess they weren't too complete in the way they told it. After you bleed it the best you can and it starts you have to pump the throttle like crazy to keep it going to get the rest of the air out.

He started it right up lots of white smoke at first then after he revved it several times it went on it's own. Problem solved :)

Pump the throttle? Huh? Many old car carbs had a pump to squirt extra fuel in the engine for immediate acceleration, but a diesel injector pump has no such thing.

Anyway, glad you got it going without major grief.

Its a shame u hade to call a tech for air.. but hey.. we've all been there on 1 project or another..
As far as "pumping" the throttle.. When u have air in the system, all u have to do is hold the throttle wide open until the air is expelled..
You'll HEAR the rpms rising slowly.. as it rises, u pull the throttle back to idle to match the rise in rpm's.. u don't wanna over-rev the engine.
Pumping the throttle does nothing..

Hi

I will try to best explain the problem with limited (english) terminology.

My 186f motor leaks oil. It looks like its coming out from where the throttle assembly is.

The picture I attach shows where I believe the oil to be coming from. There is a oil seal (part# 114770-61600) and a thrust washer. How do I replace this seal? Is it done from the inside (Need to open the motor?) or outside? Can I attempt it myself? And can an online retailer be recommended that will ship internationally (I'm in South Africa)

I greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks
Jak

Hey All,

So, I did removed the muffler on my 186F due to it being restrictive at the outlet at the head. I welded up a pipe and stuck it on there. Runs better now but its deafening. I need some sort of a muffler.

Anyone ever replace a muffler with something other than OEM?
