Best to start with the truck they drive.

Once and for all?

If someone does not choose to post their location for any reason at all, that should be that. NO ONE should be allowed to repeatedly and continuously hound others about posting their location. Whether or not some feel that information may be somehow valuable in forming their replies does not matter at all. If it isn't there and a poster doesn't feel they can answer in a way they feel necessary, they don't need to reply.

The obsession some have is getting offensive and is causing unnecessary discord and distraction in too many threads.

1) Nobody has to post or answer anything on TBN. Or any other site for that matter.

2) The Ignore List is a useful tool. I don't use it much, but for the times I do, it's invaluable.

3) All of us are free to come (unless we've worn out our welcome) and go. I had enough of TBN at one point, and stayed away for a while. I found value in leaving, and, obviously, in coming back. If you can't stand the kids in this sandbox, not sure that asking the grown-ups to intervene is really going to address the "problem".

4) Someone posted a general question about prepping a car for Winter. Those of us in the snow-belts wrote context appropriate advice in our responses, seeing as he lived in an area that normally doesn't seen snow. His location was relevant to meaningful interchange of info...... he was asking what he should do to his daughter's car, who was leaving to attend a distant, snow-bound university.

Sometimes location does have meaning, relevant to the discussion. Other times, no bearing at all....

5) I appreciate the moderation that is done here to keep discourse civil. There is plenty of garbage strewn all over the internet, we don't need more.

I have no problem ignoring people, esp. on the internet. The Ignore List on here is a wonderful filter.

Rgds, D.

YOU may actually be the one causing "unnecessary discord and distraction in too many threads".
It appears that you have a phobia about the location issue.

How in the world does Facebook survive when everyone puts their home town on it. Not many mass killings from Facebook users because of it.

I find it at least a little interesting when I know at least which state a guy is from. Many TBN users are paranoid.

Let us make another rule as well!

Those same people who do no trust the community enough to give their location are forbidden from ever saying, where I live, followed by comments on local weather, how low your gas prices are, how beautiful the women are, or any other local reference that makes NO sense if you do not know their location.

Better yet, if you do not trust this community enough to post your location, do not post at all. Which would be smarter because your IP address and other content gives your location to a few miles anyway. And marketers are tracking your every click. Pretending you can not be doxed is aluminum foil hat worthy.

personally after I've posted my opinion on a topic I just lurk and don't make more rhetorical posts...but in this instance I have to ask..
What difference does it make?...Tell me how knowing someones location improves a solution to a problem...

My beef with the subject is (again)...members who tell new comers that including their location will be beneficial to them and they will get better responses is pure BULL **** and those that do so are full of it...

If someone did not specify in their post, where they are, it DOES make a big difference if they are asking about what to use for sheeting on their shop, whether they are in Alaska or Florida. Or maybe not on this continent at all!

No one is asking for your street address. What is the big deal?

That argument does not hold water...if someone is asking a question about something of that nature they generally reveal their local or region...it does not mean that everything they ask is going to require a local weather forecast to get an answer...
