New Non-Emission Tractors

All I know is going from a 3-cyl '81 Ford to a modern 4-cyl Kubota with DPF has done wonders for my lungs. Running the Ford I'd blow black crap out of my nose for a day straight and I could smell it running from 50ft away.

No such problem with the Kubota. I can't understand how someone doesn't think it makes a difference in their health.

I know what you mean. My dad has a Case/David Brown tractor that belches smoke out its pipe and it takes a week to get my lungs and sinuses cleared out. At the plant I worked at, the train engines that supplied parts were switched to new ones. The new ones never smoked like the old ones. The new big farm tractors and construction equipment are quiet and seldom smoke. I am a person that is severely affected by this type of exhaust emissions so I do appreciate any effort to make the air cleaner.

If the you have issues with your simple and trouble free Diesel Particulate Filter on your compact tractor....you deserve it.

The DPF itself is generally trouble free, but will have a finite life. The sensor, harness and ECU problems are very much undeserved.

And then there are the electric cars that are supposed to be so good for the environment. Ever wonder where all that "clean" electricity comes from? Lithium is mined in very few places in the world and none in the US. So, ore is shipped half way around the world for refining, then again to make the batteries, then more shipping for distribution. In the mean time where does the electricity come from to recharge the batteries? Just plug it into the wall - right? The power plant typically burns coal, coal has to be shipped as well. Or maybe nuclear reactor for electricity? Or hydro, but how did the dam get built? And what about the electric distribution grid?

My point is that in determining the level of pollution, one has to consider the entire chain of manufacturing, not just the end point which is what is typically done.

You are exactly correct. The main problem is the people pick and choose bits and pieces of information that may or may not be partially true and and use them to support whatever argument they want to be right. VERY RARE INDEED to see information on both sides of anything and the pluses and minuses added up realistically to come to a practical conclusion.

If you took it as an insult, then you need to work on your sense of humor.

It was actually a phrase I borrowed from a movie called Blazing Saddles. Don't know if you've ever seen it, but it's funny. Back when people were allowed to be funny. And back when people actually had senses of humor, and didn't just get offended by every-little-thing in the world.

Here is the actual quote:

Hedley Lamarr: If you will just sign this, Governor. Right here.

Governor Lepetomane: Yes, yes. What the **** is it?

Hedley Lamarr: Well, under the provisions of this bill, we would snatch two hundred thousand acres of Indian land, which we have deemed unsuitable for their use at this time. They're such children.

Governor Lepetomane: Two hundred thousand acres? Two hundred thousand acres? What'll it cost, man, what'll it cost?

Hedley Lamarr: [brings out a carton of paddleballs] A box of these.

Governor Lepetomane: Are you crazy? They'll never go for it. And then again they might. Those little red devils... they love toys!

And an interview that Mel Brooks a couple years back about how the perpetually offended have made comedy virtually impossible:

Mel Brooks warns 'politically correct society is the death of comedy' | The Independent

So, to borrow another quote, from another comedy:

"Lighten up Francis."

(Guess that movie)

We need some grey market imported Kubotas[/QUOTE

Why go back to dirty, air polluting, cancer causing technology? Buying and maintaining those emissions systems is far cheaper than dealing with the health effects dirty internal combustion engines cause.

Yep.....That is exactly what they are doing in India, China, Russia, Indonesia, Africa, etc., etc.
I sure am glad our cleaner atmosphere in the USA will stay stationary, all the time, right over us.
Hopefully there is zero potential for the atmospheric pollution created billions of others worldwide, to move into our very own private atmosphere.
We probably do need a worldwide "Green New Deal" .... within the next 12 years!
I have heard that there is a young NYC female bartender with such a dynamic plan!

I am currently working on a system to capture cow farts!

Absolutely true, i have a study by a german university thtat explains exactly this situation.

I was going to post this I was at lax in a lower level busses and cars dropping off and picking up thousands of people an hour and the air was cleaner than most rural roads in China

I知 no environmental snowflake myself, but I致e traveled to 43 countries at last count and all you gotta do is go to any city in a third world country to experience the raw pollution from emissions free diesel cars and trucks.

You smell it the instant you step off the plane, the acrid diesel soot coats the insides of your nose, mouth, eyes, and ears. Blow your nose and it comes out black. Add to that the smoke from locals burning wood and trash to keep warm in the winter.

We have a lot to be thankful for and every time I get back to the USA, I feel so thankful for the clean air and the good roads and all the conveniences that actually work.

I知 not a fan of forced regulation and expensive pollution controls on our machines but it makes a difference in the air we breathe.

I won't even get into this debate but having emission controlled engines in big rigs and heavy equipment.....there is NO WAY ever I will deal with that ridiculous crap that does nothing to save the environment in my personal at-home life. NO WAY. And I just bought a 1955 Allis Chalmers to ensure that.
Try getting a $30,000 bill replacing the SCR system on a Detroit Diesel and see how much you like it.

So how do you think the environment is getting saved? How many factories have to make the DEF fluid, the plastic jugs and totes it goes in that you see in every garbage can and ditch along the highway. And all the components that get replaced on my big trucks weekly that go in the garbage. And all the van and tanker trucks that have to run to deliver all that DEF fluid. And the 4.7 US gallons of fuel my DD15 Detroits burn every time they do a parked regen where the truck is unproductive because you can't move it. And that is every 8 hours in the winter.

That's the thing about environmentalists......one sided and tunnel vision.

I'll take the death. Haven't you heard....EVERYTHING causes cancer now anyway. I'll leave it at that before I explode.

Thank you for lowing my pulse. Why is that the American Tax Payer, Usually Canada following and the EU pushing things along, in all cases the little guy, in these massive economies, has to always pay to save the world. What are the other 90% of the inhabitants up to?

I love the post after yours, I think I will only read, no more posting, of this thread. :D

btw - Anyone recall what happened to the radiators that eat smog, some 20 years ago?
