^^^ Tell that to this guy:

Hundreds of trucks successfully negotiate the treacherous 50 miles between the Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70 and the city of Lakewood, Colorado, where last Thursday, a driver who wasn't so lucky made international headlines, roaring down the grade, out of control, slamming into stopped traffic in a fiery crash that claimed four innocent lives.

Each day, thousands of truck drivers in places like western Pennsylvania and California and Montana and West Virginia manage to get their trucks down similarly dangerous mountain grades. What went so horribly wrong in Lakewood?

While I'm in no position to armchair-quarterback this one, based on the media coverage (and there's been plenty, including some hair-raising videos), it looks like a pretty clear case of inexperience, coupled perhaps with some maintenance issues, and possibly even some problems reading and understanding the signage on the highway.

It was a Dodge RAM!
The way that truck buckled it absorbed a lot of the impact.
You can tell the wercker is billing by the hour!
All the equipment was new, guess he is trying to pay for it.

I like to watch HighWay Thru Helll. Interesting the delema in running new vs used equipment. Old stuff breaks, or won't get the job done, and ruins your reputation, New stuff doesn't allow you to make any money.

Is it possible he was cut off by the semi and then the semi needed to make a fast stop?

Video reports that they were headed EAST into the rising sun and this hot shot yahoo, although blinded by the sunlight, didn't slow down and didn't see the nearly stopped semi in front of him until he drove through it.

GENERALLY speaking, you hit someone and it's your fault. And if you witness the morons following to close (almost everyone), it would be RARE that a rear end collision ocurred for another reason.

Gets's me to wondering about something else. Just got off the phone with a friend who is Livid. He got a new Diesel F350 long box, onto which he puts a galvanized deck and sides (over the OEM bed and sides) to transport his products. He was told his three year old one would fit the new truck, and it doesn't. My point is, that thing would change the whole crash characteristics of his truck.

It's a tough way to make a living. Who doesn't milk a situation when they can? A friend used to call them Maggots, and later became one himself, but with CAA, and called himself, The Maggot that cares.
