Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 4:15AM. Showers early, then partly cloudy for the afternoon. High around 75F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.
About 9:30 last night the wind started blowing and the sky light up with lightning flashes as a large thunderstorm cell passed a few miles to the east. Just after I went to bed an hour later, the phone rang when the authorities left a recorded message that the storm was in the area?!?

By then, the storm had moved completely out of the area. This is the same warning system that sent the warnings about the Camp Fire either too late or not at all. Clearly more work is needed...
Looking at the long range forecasts, it looks like afternoon mountain showers may linger into next weekend as well, and that may wash out plans for a camp out in the southern Sierra foothills. I'll have to keep an eye on that one.
And now there's another large cell bearing down from the north, making enough noise to wake me up. From the looks of the radar track, I don't think this one will miss.
Glad the Whip likes her new booties, Don. Some of the dogs in that video were chewing on theirs, trying to get them off.
Don, Ron & Eric, beautiful flowers! Thanks for sharing the photos. We've had so much rain that the lupines have regrown and blossomed again in the lower meadow I cut last month.
Well, I did get some work done on the motorcycle yesterday, but started off putting the original drive shaft back in the van and taking it for a drive. Had to loosen the transaxle and front differential mounts to let the two move a quarter inch closer together first, though, as whoever put them in to begin with apparently just made a guess as to where they should be. It made no difference in the vibrations, which were present in the 25 and 45 MPH ranges, but missing again at 65+. So the smoking gun is pointing at the front differential, so it'll be next on the list to come out.
A new-to-me center stand for the motorcycle was delivered yesterday morning, so I finished the day test fitting it and making some weld repairs. It came from the same model as the exhaust system I'm using, and features a well placed lever to step on when hefting the bike up onto the stand. Unfortunately I got my paint job started a little late, and ended up finishing in the dark using a flashlight to see what I was doing. And what I saw were lots of runs that dripped paint onto the patio.:muttering: Good thing it's mostly out of site under the bike, as it's certainly not a very good example of my best work.
This rainy day wil be good for more motorcycle wrenching, and maybe some reading up on what's inside that differential.
Hope everyone enjoys their Memorial Day weekend, and remembers the fallen that gave all to preserve the way of life we all enjoy.
