Secret to hooking up PTO shaft

/ Secret to hooking up PTO shaft #101
You know, the hardest thing about hooking up the PTO is to get a clear shot at it. All the shrouds and safety accommodations have put the drive stub in deep and close. It's terrible the access on both the compact tractors,

The Fordson on the other hand just has a short "step" over the spud, 'never any troubles getting shaft couples on or off that old gal.

Agree.

Thinking I'd already mentioned it here (but it's really worth repeating). I recently got a new PTO shaft from Bare and they have some pretty nifty collars on theirs:

Bare Co USA - Shaft Guard

Flip a couple of levers and push the collar back and the yoke is then easily manipulated (all easier for greasing too).

1. Make sure the pto shaft is lined up as straight to the tractor as possible,

2. Straddle the pto shaft

3. While using both hands to pull on the collar, push the shaft in by squeezing it forward with my knees.

THANK YOU!!!

That was the trick I've been looking for. Worked perfectly. (Along with squirting the collar with PB Blaster and making sure the locking balls were free to move.)

Some slick tricks and great advice here, but I think what would help most of all would be having 3 or 4 arms and hands.

Also make use the splines match.

Ive never really had much problem hooking up a pto. Keep it greased, slides right on.

You guys are really making this tough.
I just shift the PTO gear lever to the "off" position, and the spline spins freely either direction. Piece of cake to slide the implement PTO shaft onto the spline. Usually one hand.
(somebody might say you guys bought the wrong tractor...not me....but somebody) :D

Someone may have mentioned but if your tractor didn't come with a PTO cover, I would keep one on it.
I'm thinking a small burr or corrosion would make it hard to get on.

The cover stays on mine when not in use.
