GM pickup truck plant announcement yesterday

Well no but that's what sells these days -- jacked up station wagons.

Station wagons are still my favorite vehicle; it's what I drive when I'm not driving the pickup.

I am a fan of crossovers in general. I don't need the height, weight, or horsepower of a 4x4 SUV for my family car. I am not off-roading with my family car, so the station wagon/extended hatchback style is fine with me. On the other hand, all wheel drive is safer and easier to control in the winter for the wife and kids. My Subaru Forester meets my family's needs much better than a large SUV or two wheel drive station wagon of yesteryear would. As well, while it is not as economical to drive as a civic or a corolla, I like to have it when the snow is flying.

To me a car that can give me all wheel drive without pretending to be a full size off road vehicle is a good fit north of the snow belt. The small decrease in fuel economy in the summer, is worth it due to the better safety in the winter.

Yes the 9 miles per gallon my old truck gets hurts, but I spend more on insurance per year than gas as I don't drive it much. Two months payments would be more than my yearly fuel cost. This may change with fuel near $1.50 per litre recently (approx. $6.00 US gal.)

Wow. Unleaded regular around here is just under $2.50 and we think that is high. I guess it is all relative.

Heck with my gravel "driveway"/road in front of my house is so steep you need the AWD to get up it unless you get a good run at it in a 2WD. You learn real quick to never slow down on the hill even in the summer unless you want to back up to the last hill until your tires spin and then floor it to get up the last one. If I had 50,000 I would have it paved.

Lucky you! Had to drive to town today and noticed that OUR prices have dropped to $3.20 per gallon. But I'm not complaining - that's still cheaper than around the Reno area where prices are still hovering around $3.70 per gallon.

Yeah, $2.49 on Shepard of the Hills Blvd, but $2.52 seems to be the average all over town. And our prices are high here in Branson, especially during tourist season.

$2.35 in Nixa (small town about 20 miles up 65 and over on 14.

OP here. My 1999 F250, (window sticker below) listed for $35,645. In today's $, that would be $53,500. How does that compare to comparables on the lots today?

Ram sales numbers have been through the roof lately. They sold over 49,000 in April for a %25 increase over the same period in 2018. Ford, Chevy, and GMC have gone to quarterly reporting so numbers won't be out until July. Ram outsold Chevy in Q1/2019.

I still like Ford for their 6.15% dividend and I'm hoping the new Ranger will do well.

Speaking of hatchbacks, my 3 door got over 40mpg last tank and I can haul 400lbs of bagged feed in the back. I've saved more in gas $$ since I bought it than the $12500 I paid for it brand new in 2008. I have nothing against big comfortable vehicles like trucks. I just like seeing how frugal I can be when it comes to commuting to and from work. Liability and repairs are really cheap too.
