How does a Northern Californian turn on a light?

First start a generator, then flip a switch, silly.:D

Well, Eric, you'd think an approach like what you've suggested would be quite popular. But when the gummint passed abusive gasoline and auto license taxes last year, people just laid back and took it. Nary a whimper. One of The Gubinator's big planks that led to his election as governor was a repeal of such taxes. I think people here are so beat down just trying to deal with the aftermath of the fires, and now the daily threat of new ones, that they just don't have time to waste on petty politics. I know that's how I feel.

All I know from my perspective is, it's a mess. 20/20 hindsight is always clearer. Did the company make mistakes, yes. People like yourself who do their best with preemptive measures to make your homes as fireproof as possible, are now getting blackouts forced upon them. What about people who can't afford their own generator systems, and have medical issues that need power? If you have thousands of families living in close quarter neighborhoods, all running their own generators, well, that would be a mess too. Noise and fumes. Hopefully, they will put in systems run on natural gas (that is, if the gas isn't shut off too).....

Sounds like more lawsuits to me.

I live in an electric COOP. It is not perfect, but pretty close as far as being budget conscience. They have very little help for any programs to put in solar or other energy saving big ticket items.

Good morning all,

30 this morning with a clear blue sky, no wind. (and no snow!) It has been cold and unfortunately the alfalfa got froze. Meaning the growth will be stunted. Only way to correct it is to cut/bale. Let it start over. I do not want to cut now, to much chance of it getting rained on to many times before I can get it sold. I'll wait.

Update on the little girl that had her leg amputated;

The doctors were able to get ahead of the infection and she is doing fine now. She was in a medically induced coma, she is now awake. Parents have told her everything that happened. Keep in mind she is only 10 and will have a tough time ahead of her, but her response when finding out her leg had been removed was,
"now I only have to find 1 sock in the sock drawer".

Thanks for all your prayers and best wishes for her.

Prayers for all, have a nice day.

Good Morning. It's 76°F and partly cloudy here this morning. Forecast is for only 87°F this afternoon with 20% chance of rain. It didn't make the forecasted 98°F yesterday ..... only made 96°F.

I was able to get most of our overgrown yard mowed yesterday. We built the house in the middle of one of our pastures 10 years ago and have not done much with the grass, which is a mix of native grass and Bahia. With last weeks rains (and my laziness) ten days growth took time to cut. When it gets this high I mow it with the tractor and rear finish mower. It still looks crappy after a single pass as the mower leaves poorly cut areas where the tractor tires smash down the long Bahia stems. I'll either recut with the RFM or mow it all with the ZT, at right angles to original cut.

Kyle .... Assassin bugs? I'll have to ask our Agri-Life agent about them. Sorry your son got bit by one.

For now, here's TAMU's take on them.

Wheel bugs and other assassin bugs - Insects in the City

Drew .... sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. RIP.

RNG ... good luck with your power issues and you get your Solar sorted soon.

Hope everyone has a great start to their week.

Prayers to all.

31 pounds of veggies delivered, they are on full alert mode for big potato dig on Saturday.
I'm headed out to do some blade sharpening and maintenance before it starts to rain again.

that bug looks too much like a stink bug, you could really confuse them until it latched into you

Good morning to all! Low went to 45, going up to 68...a little relief of warmer temps, if only for a day. Now we only have a "slight chance" of a t-storm this afternoon.... Went from a 60% chance down to 10-20%. Back to the upper 80's for the rest of the week starting tomorrow.

Started feeling really sick yesterday, had to lay down twice... Got dizzy when I was outside, seemed like my whole body was hurting, especially from my lower back up to my neck. Came out of nowhere.... Continued until going to sleep. This morning, still feel "beat up", but much better.... I may have been really dehydrated.

Today is going to be a "taking it easy" day, maybe some errands....

Drew, I saw news about flooding in Franklin county NC, over 7" of rain....is that near you?

Don, close call...if you heard a "freight train" sound, I wonder if it was close by, just maybe not on the ground anymore.

Unfortunately, this talk of 'hospitals in trouble' is becoming more and more the norm across the country. Until costs, spending, and pharma and insurance companies stop gouging, it will continue to get worse...

Everyone have a great start to the week! Prayers sent as usual.

Some errands today,

Don, I would vote for a small tax for a hospital district. We are in a medical desert here. It would fall on every property owner to pay a little. I can only guess why they have such a debt. There are many without insurance in these parts.

Why should the property owners be the ones forced to support the ones without insurance,
so a hospital (many of which are non-profits which take them out of the community as tax payers)
makes money.
But this discussion should most likely be in "friendly" politics section. :(

65°F and windy this morning, going up to 76° today. Looks like most of this week will be highs in the 70s. I'm OK with that.

We're in an electric co-op as well, Kyle. Very efficient with their budget. We get a refund check pretty much every year for over-payment above what they needed.

Nice pictures, Rick. Beautiful place.

Saturday I got started on polishing the front cap of the travel trailer (2013 models saw many fiberglass front caps with fading problems). Some folks have had them painted to be done with the issue, but we decided to try the cutting compounds and electric polisher.. Not perfect, but much improved. I was wore out and I'm not even half done. Got home from church yesterday, was relaxing and decided to try mowing in the draw (last year it was July before I could mow due to how wet it was, some parts I never was able to mow). Surprisingly, was able to mow most of the draw near the house, much easier when the grasses are only 4' instead of 6-7'. I was wore out after 6-7 hours so left the big hill by the creek for another day. It usually does not grow as fast as the draw near the house so it can wait a few weeks.
