Cordless is the way to go. Better put it off as long as possible because there are a few pitfalls.
Our family had always had Milwaukee tools and myself as well. So when Milwaukee came out with their line of V28 construction tools we all bought a full set. Thousands of dollars.

You can guess what happened next.....without warning Milwaukee discontinued their construction quality tools. No more V28 tools, no more batteries, no more support, no apologies. No Nothin.

It looks like after having made their name with quality products, Milwaukee went completely away from their quality tools and into home owner type tools sold at big box stores.

I see some Japanese made tools taking the opposite approach and starting with homeowners tools and then building up to commercial quality tools - just like they've done with tractors, cars, and trucks !
Those are the brands we will be looking at next time.

still poed at Milwaukee's customer support and their whole tool building philosophy. They could have at least warned us. Never again.

What are the brands you are looking into? I am looking for new power tools and have used porter cable for years but their quality is junk now. And I dont want to spend a pretty penny on Milwaukee fuel line

As far as I’m concerned Dewalt and Milwaukee are the king of the hill. My pick for the 2 is Dewalt. I don’t think anyone else has put forward the innovation in recent years that those 2 have. I have quite a few Makita tools that I think were first class in their time but have been surpassed in recent years. I second the porter cable being junk idea.

I am looking into dewalt currently. Have a coupon from lowes for the drill and impact set for $150.

We have used Porter cable for about 6 years. Their 20v sets used to be good but the last set or so seem to have gone down hill

There’s a big difference in the Dewalt XR line and the regular line just FYI.

Farmboy, I just don't know. Every time I look at the Japanese cordless on the market I end up thinking that honestly, those 15 year old old Milwaukee V28 commercial cordless tools are going to be hard to beat. Those old V28 Milwaukees really are heavy, but hig torque and solid good tools. So far we have been able to rebuild ours because of Chinese parts. There does seem to be a Chinese presence online that is willing to support what US manufacturers won't do.

For instance, we also just bought a bunch of new V28 batteries for our tools from Amazon. They are made to fit the Milwaukee cordless perfectly, work better, and even look the same. The brands are HSC and Tank brand. Probably Chinese too, but what can you do? Cost is a quarter of what Milwaukee wants, the warranty better, and best of all they are available.

My guess is we will try to buy Japanese commercial quality tools next time if we can find them but only one tool at a time to try it out.
We will be looking for tools that run on the higher voltage batteries because that is the best way I know to get high torque with low heat buildup. Lasts longer....

Our mistake was trusting in Milwaukee's integrity enough to buy their whole V28 tool line in bulk. We did get free tool bags and a free jobsite radio!!
I still don't understand why they sold out, and frankly wish Milwaukee was still the old trustworthy company we grew up with. But changing couirse was their decision and that's their business.
Right now I don't know what other brands to look at.

I special ordered a corded Worm Drive Porter Cable Jig Saw. It cost a small fortune and has a cast housing. Maybe the last of the good Porter Cable Stuff! GREAT for precision cutting in metal, like cutting out door frames for electric strikes. It doesn't want to hop around as much as a normal jig saw.

I’ve seen worm drive circle saws ( I actually have one that I’ve never used) but what’s a worm drive jigsaw look like?

I googled it. Easier than going out to the storage room in the barn and taking a picture. Heavy little sucker. Nice smooth variable speed too.
