Hi my name is James, and I am a sugarholic. I have been clean and sober and off sugar for 7 weeks. Very low carbohydrate intake too in the last 7 weeks. But NO sugar or anything that contains it. It has not been particularly easy. To know I will never be able to eat another glazed donut or a bowl of real ice cream.. well it is pretty darn sad.

Never used tobacco, Very little alchohol, I don't think even a beer in the last 5 years. I don't drink coffee. But I did my share of everything sugar. I tried coffee a couple of times when I was a deputy sheriff. ALL law enforcement drinks coffee. I didn't. I loathe the smell of burning tobacco. I loathe intoxicated people. Chewing tobacco while it doesn't affect me like smoking in my presence seems like a very nasty rude habit.

I never understood the attraction to cigarettes. I tried a few as a youngster. They hurt your lungs, taste awful and really stink. I don't get it. The concept of drawing hot smoke into your lungs by choice just seems crazy to me. I don't do drugs (except sugar) and never did. Nope never ever even once. Not even MJ. I am proud of that. But there is that "danged" sugar. That crap is a drug just as sure as cocaine. i think the addiction is as strong or stronger. Don't believe it? Try quitting it for a couple of months.

I hear you... sugar is so bloody good. My thing is glazed donuts or a glazed honey bun. I love ice cream, but limit myself once a week. Same with the glazed treats now, I'm down to once a month. Chocolate covered pea nuts is another story...:licking: I told my wife I might as well be a crack head, God I love my sweets.

Yep, it is rough. I am convinced it truly is an addiction just like many others. It may depend on the person, some may be able to easily quit, but others not so much. Most people don't think of sugar as a dangerous drug, and people addicted to sugar as addicts but it is and they are. Don't believe me? Try quitting for a period of time.. lets say a month. And by quit, I mean quit it all. absolutely NO sugar or anything that contains even a small amount of sugar or anything that turns into sugar in your body. (carbs). Give that a try and let me know how you do. Honeybuns... wow. man. What a pleasant memory.

I believe my wife and I have done it,, we went a diet the day before Thanksgiving 2018,,,
Our goal is to stay under 15 grams of carbs per day,, most days, we stay under 10 grams.

The only sugar I have used in the last 6 months is the sugar I add to heated water,,, for hummingbird food,,,

Can you eat fruit or is it just refined sugar you can't eat?
I can imagine how much attention you have to pay to everything you eat to avoid sugar...like sodium/salt it seems to be in almost everything these days.

Sugar, Salt and Fat are all flavor enhancers and would make an old shoe palatable. They get us hooked and it is a devil to get weaned off of.

Rather than look at "sugar", simply look at carbs,,
Look up the carb content of almost any food, you can find the grams of carbs.

There is almost no reason to reduce "sugar" intake,, if you then turn around and woof down high carb white bread,,

Almost any prepared spaghetti sauce (like Ragu, or Prego) is simply loaded with sugar,,

AND, yes,, fruit sugar is simply sugar.

I understand your point, but complex carbs (eg whole grains) are definitely better than simple carbs (white flour, white rice).

I haven't eaten any of the sugary fruits since I started down this road. I have eaten some strawberries.

Agreed. No bread, no pasta no fruits.
