Power steering on JD utility tractors returned oil to trans case via a galley built into clutch housing. Pressure oil was supplied to power steering housing(key 4) via a pressure line from frt pump back to priority valve. Which hyd pump does your tractor have(.69/4 piston or 1.38 IN.3/8 piston)? I think your tractor probably has a 4 piston pump.

An open Center priority valve is going to be a total mess on a tractor with closed Center hydraulics .
Find an entire 20,40 or 40 series tractor and swap parts to make it a 100% factory system.

To my knowledge JD didn't offer a priority valve for open center steering on 1020/2020,300 or 400 because it didn't require a priority valve because it was powered by it's own open center pump & remainder of hyd system was closed-center hyd's.

That would be why I was telling the poster that an open center priority valve on a closed centre hydraulic system was not a good idea. I wonder why the adding of some aftermarket PS system that will cost more and not work as well as the factory system?
All that really needs to be done is to drop in a steering column from a power steering tractor . Connect the inlet to the HP hydraulics and drain the PS unit into the transmission case.

One slight problem b&d is in your post #5 you stated ""open-center priority valve"" which doesn't exist for a JD 1020. The correct priority would be a good idea if OP installs a closed center steering valve similar to later model 1020's.

Exactly , the 1020 is closed centre so why would an open centre priority valve be added. And why some aftermarket PS system when a PS column from a junked 20,30 or 40 series Dubuque or Mannheim Utility tractor will bolt on. No fuss, no muss and operate perfectly .
I hope the poster can get back to us and return that after market PS system.

chevgmc12 never stated he was adding """an open center""" priority valve similar to photo but you did state that. Open center hyd such as early 1020 didn't need a priority valve because that system utilized 2 hyd pumps similar to tractors built today.
