I presume you mean a lug wrench? Never heard it called a wheel brace before.

Never heard of a lug wrench, no idea what a lug is except a slang term for an ear.

The lug wrench is what you use to take the lug nuts off.
A lug nut is what holds the rim and tire onto the vehicle. Lose them and all sorts of pandemonium breaks loose.

The Wife often refers to me as a "Lugnut" or a "Wingnut".

We just call them 'wheelnuts' and all you lose if they suddenly go missing is control, speaking from personal experience after a tyre dealer didn't tighten one wheel.
A wingnut is a racist description of a Vietnamese resident.

Lemme tell you If you say you need a wheel brace to change out a tire, No one around here will have a clue what you mean. Over here they are called lug wrench's or occasionally "tire tool". Well, you know what a lug nut is now. The ones in the shape of a cross is sometimes called a "4 way" The only thing most people around here would think if if you called for a wheel brace is maybe you meant a jack stand. You know jack up the car and put a jack stand under it for safety. It is hilarious the way we "share a common language" and some things are just so far off of the mark. Wheel brace indeed!. :)

I was thinking the same thing, years ago I went to someones home and asked to use the bathroom, they looked bewildered but showed me to the bathroom, I did not pee in the sink.

A wingnut is a racist description of a Vietnamese resident.

Over here a wingnut refers to an actual type nut that has "wings" so that you can turn the nut with your fingers without any other tools. OR in slang it is a derogatory term that is used to refer to a political position a person holds and is therefore a "nut" (insane). It can refer to a person that holds "right wing" or "left wing" political views.
