Buying Advice Sick and tired of low quality riding lawnmowers

Yeah, I think it's due to the snow blower being sold with it, which I don't really need...

As I have said previously, I own a Ford 1620HST that I think is well built. I've never owned a Ford 1220HST, but I assume it would be built the same. It would be good to know what other tractor makes are comparable to a Ford 1220. I honestly have no clue about Kubota's or JD's, never owned either. It might help me expand my search.

I think I'd much prefer to spend money on an older compact tractor with a mid mount mower vs. a new riding mower.

would a ford 1620 or 1220 be usable for your dad?

Oh, the 1620 would be too big for mowing at his place, a 1220HST sized machine (is a 1220 considered a SCUT?) would work well. Plus he can do all of his other little odd jobs and not beat up on a cheap mower.

He also has an IH 444 gas tractor with FEL he can use for bigger jobs. Has a straight blade, 6' tiller and a few other implements. But after his stroke we're trying to limit his use of the bigger machine.

I have a craftsman yt3000. I mow about 3/4 an acre once or twice a week through the summer. I only had to do oil changes and sharpen/replace blades from time to time and replaced the battery 2 years ago. I have had the mower for about 8 or 9 years now. I also do not baby this machine as I would like it to break so I have a reason to tell the wife we need a new mower and I can get the one I really want. The wife wont let me otherwise...

Once again, A Toro Wheel Horse 522xi (gas) garden tractor would be just the ticket.

Heavy built, power steering, goods parts support. They were $8,000 new. GOOD ones are Frequently available for $1,500 to $2,500.

Only one I see on CL at the moment is a Diesel unit, and some members here and on other forums seemed to that diesel is a weak point.

I would say wait for Ronsons auction. They have an auction out on 104 in Medina about 4 times a year. You just missed his auction last weekend but he will be doing another one in the fall. They usually have several older riding mowers there and they usually go fairly cheap and might need just a little tuning up. Not sure if you been there or not. I'm actually in Pendleton but with Lockport address.
