2019 GC1705
Hey everyone. I'm checking in from the great state of SC. I got my GC 1705 several months back and I have to say, I just love that lil MF. I'm doing my first service and
with that said, I have a few questions.

What are some options other than using Permatran 821xl ?
I see where to drain the hydraulic fluid, but where do I add it? Is it 3 gallons or 4?
What are hydraulic filter options, other than AGCO.
Is 80-90 good enough for front axle?

Who has installed a turbo on one of these lil MF's ?

Thank you and God Bless America

GC1705 is one of the lightest of subcompact tractors at 1,400 pounds bare tractor weight.

The fundamental importance of TRACTOR WEIGHT eludes many tractor shoppers. Heavier tractor weight is more important for most tractor applications than increased tractor horsepower. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites, readily comparable across tractor brands and tractor models, new and used.

Within subcompact and compact tractor categories, a significant tractor capability increase requires a bare tractor weight increase of 50%. It takes a 100% increase in bare tractor weight to elicit MY-OH-MY!

If you need more tractor capability trade in your 1,400 pound subcompact for a 24-horsepower, 2,700 pound bare tractor weight compact such as MF GC1726E. Trading up will be cheaper than adding a turbo and you will have a reliable tractor with resale value.

Five reasons owner/operators trade up from Subcompact Tractors:
More tractor weight.
More FEL lift capacity.
More ground clearance.
Three-range (3) HST (Lower LOW, Higher, HIGH) ~~ rather than two-range (2) HST.
Larger wheels and tires yield more tractive power pulling ground contact implements and logs, pushing a loader bucket into dirt and pushing snow.
Larger wheels and tires permit heavier tractors to bridge holes, ruts and tree debris with less operator perturbation.

Re: New member with questions

Like Jeff said - if you think you need a bigger tractor - trade your current one in on something larger.

The answer to most of your other questions will be found in your Owners Manual. Read it......

Welcome to the forum.

I'm making an assumption that you bought this tractor new and it is most likely still covered warranty. IF it is still under warranty, I would hesitate to use anything, but manufacture filters, products, etc. until it is out of warranty to prevent any type of issues in case you have to take it in for warranty service.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: New member with questions

I read my owners manual pretty thoroughly, just wanted to make sure I had the right fill spot for the hydraulic fluid, I guess there is only one place it can go in. Also, I didn't see in the owners manual where it stated " here are some options we'd recommend other than AGCO". I'd rather do the service myself and save about $350 and a 4 hour round trip. I saw on one of these threads someone say 4 gallons of 821xl, however the manual said 2.9. I'm not sure where the power and weight came into discussion, I just simply asked if anyone has put a turbo on one of these. I'm sure someone has and I bet it is fun to use. I don't need more hp or bigger tractor. I just need more hours in the day. As far as the warranty goes and as long as I use products that meet or exceeds, I shouldn't have any issues. (side note- I sent a 2 inch tree through the radiator (extremely hard to do btw) the 2nd week I had it, it was replaced without question. I did get my butt-chewed by the dealer and was told it was not a bulldozer...... I told him my warranty stated otherwise...lol

Glad they fixed it for you. It is nice when you get good service. You are correct, if you read all the different little clauses, as long as the product you are using meets or exceeds the requirements, you are good to go. The issue can be that the manufacture may try to fight/delay your repair because they feel you didn't select a product that met their requirement. Yet, with a little(maybe a lot) of effort you can prove you did. Was just trying to save you a little headache.

I'm going to move this thread over to our Massey section.

HST filler is below and to rear of seat..... Front axle uses same hydraulic oil as hydrostatic transmission.... Filters are going to cost you about $75 and yes there is a lot of different oils the can replace AGCO expensive dino juice...

Suggest the search MF section for previous written comments... Lots to be said about filters and oils...

What are some options other than using Permatran 821xl ?

CROSS REFERENCE OTHER OILS THAT MEET HE STANDARD, THERE A MANY THREADS WITH SUGGESTIONS

I see where to drain the hydraulic fluid, but where do I add it?

RUBBER PLUG BEHIND THE SEAT ABOVE THE PTO

Is it 3 gallons or 4?

ITS 4 GALLONS+ IF YOU ALSO CHANGE THE FRONT AXLE FLUID

What are hydraulic filter options, other than AGCO.

SOME FOLKS HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CROSS REFERENCE THIS FOR AWHILE, NOT SURE IF ANYONE HAS FOUND A PROPER REPLACEMENT

Is 80-90 good enough for front axle?

SEE PRIOR COMMENT ABOUT GALLONS

Who has installed a turbo on one of these lil MF's ?

THEY MAKE A TURBO ADDON?!

Thank you and God Bless America

additionally, I order filters and parts from JacksSmallEngines.com to avoid the 1 1/2hour round trip out of my way drive to the dealer. They've been very good service/shipping wise and in line, if not a bit cheaper, than my local dealer for filters.
