Mum always said to wear clean underwear in case you had an accident and needed to go to the hospital.

[True story:] Whilst in the Navy I approached a group of Medical Assistants (Sick Bay Tiffies) having lunch at the Mess and asked if, indeed, it was SOP to check for said undergarment cleanliness?

After a brief, huddled, discussion they responded in the negative... nor, they stated, did the Nurses or Doctors check.

The next time I was home on Leave I relayed this information to my Mum asking, "Seeing as this was untrue, what other fibs have you told me?" She looked (up)((tiny woman, my Mum)) into my eyes, gave me a swat and said, "Do as you're told."

Sometimes it does work. If you’re buried up to the hood it’s a hopeless fight but if you’re sitting in a greasy surface I’ve seen spinning at high speed work where spinning at low speed doesn’t.

I'm surprised it took you that long to learn your place with Mum. I was about 12 when Mum reminded me to wear clean underwear in case I were in an accident. I told her that if I were in an accident I'd probably shi* my underwear anyhow,,WHACK

Driving around with the tailgate down on your pickup truck will increase your fuel mileage. I admit to trying it but was not impressed. There have been a number of engineering reports nay saying it. Lastly, I know of at least one incident where a dropped tailgate became a flying projectile via an accident and killed a hapless driver who otherwise would not have been involved.
