I do get a mile or more a gallon when my hard cover is installed on the back of my F150 vs. it off and a closed tailgate.Driving around with the tailgate down on your pickup truck will increase your fuel mileage. I admit to trying it but was not impressed. There have been a number of engineering reports nay saying it. Lastly, I know of at least one incident where a dropped tailgate became a flying projectile via an accident and killed a hapless driver who otherwise would not have been involved.
