Ford mileage claims sparks lawsuit

I've been driving for well over half a century now. I don't LIKE the sound of THAT. I've learned one thing - the mileage I'm going to get with ANY vehicle I drive has as much to do with the way I drive as with the vehicle. The mileage calculator on the Taco Wagon MAY NOT be nuts on. I KNOW it's as close to being accurate as I am doing it manually. That all I can ask.

coobie - my son & I have had some "animated" discussions regarding the programs on the Taco Wagon AND on my new Apple iPhone. He has a degree in computer engineering, has had these newer "Smart" phones for years and can't understand why I can't pick up on all of them with one "go thru".

At first he could not understand why I won't be extending most of this free stuff, on the Taco Wagon, beyond the introductory period. When I asked if he would pony up the $475 annual fee for all this stuff - he understood. I just DON'T NEED - the travel, security, traffic, Apple Play, Traffic Plus etc, etc programs. I don't use them now - I sure won't use them a year from now.

And now, I have three GPS units. The one built in to the Taco Wagon digital dashboard ( Garmin ). It has no annual fee. A hand held Garmin GPS unit. The BMW Motorrad Nav V( Garmin ) that will work on the motorcycle or anywhere else. However - a long held theory I have - - as long as there is gas in the tank, you are never lost.

Sixty + years of driving - I've never once run out of gas. A little "trip planning" goes a long way.
Also need the help of my kids and grand kids to try navigate threw setting up apple I phone set ups and such.

Well - it's for sure I DID NOT buy the Power Wagon because I expected to get good mileage. But 18mpg is just great as far as I'm concerned.

Remember fellows - NOBODY has found a way, YET, that we can take it with us when we leave.

And I have no intentions of leaving a great, hunking wad lying somewhere, in some bank, when I depart.

Use it or loose it.

That's enough for right now. I'm preparing to be off for another day long adventure. Until this evening............Hi, Ho - Taco Wagon!!

MPG,s on my 2016 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi are a honest 12.7 mpg city and 14 mpg on the highway driving 70 mph.

I just read the EPA estimated numbers for the Silverado 1500 w/3.0 duramax diesel is 33/23 and 29/23(4x4). Compared to old trucks....new ones are getting unbelievable mpg's.

Friend of mine has one, I'll ask him what he gets.

2005 F250 Supercab long bed, 4x4, 5.4 3-valve gas engine, 80k. I don't drive it much at all any more, so it is pretty much only when I need to haul something. Computer typically says 11-12mpg and my hand calculations are in the same zone every time I have checked (most times) so it is pretty reliable as a gauge. I only put maybe 2-3k on it per year now, but I drove it a lot more in the past. I have seen the 9's during a period of heavy towing and seen low 20's for a freeway trip that was set the cruise and go for 400 miles at a clip, but that 12ish zone seems to be the default "sweet spot" that it gets.

I have never been lost, sometimes I have been confused and sometimes I have taken the scenic route, but since I always ended up where I was going I wasn't lost.
On the same note, coming from a retired truck driver, men don't ask for directions because
A: Most people don't know how to get to where they are.
B: If they do, they don't know how to give directions
C: Your truck won't fit down that road.

This goes along with a theory I adopted from the airlines. Last year when they lost my luggage, they insisted it wasn't lost. Even though they couldn't tell me where it was or when it would arrive, it was technically "delayed, not lost". Uh, ok. So now I use that when my wife asks "are we lost"? Nope, just delayed.

Boy -OH - boy. Did we EVER learn about giving directions when I worked for the Health Dept. Folks would give us directions on how to get to their place. We would be inspecting their new on-site sewer system. First problem - they would wait to call until the contractor was all done and ready to backfill. This meant the contractor was waiting for us to arrive, make the necessary inspection, complete the necessary drawings - authorize corrections or to backfill. Second problem - folks know EXACTLY how THEY get to their house. They were usually piss-poor at giving direction.

Best solution - we had them draw a map when they came in and applied for their permit. Any extra instructions, explanation, corrections could be made at that time. Plus - we FINALLY got two way communications with our field inspectors. We also asked the contractors to call us or when to tell the homeowner to call us.

Saved so much time and fuel and shattered nerves. Better that the inspector arrive early than have the contractor wait.

Absolutely right.:D I've been driving for more than 63 years, and having been a fleet manager for a time, I probably keep more detailed records than most. My current car is a 2017 Ford Escape Titanium with the little 1.5L Ecoboost engine. The window sticker says 23 mpg City and 30 mpg Highway, 26 mpg overall. So, since I bought it in March, 2017, I've only put 23790 miles on it; mostly city driving, A/C never turned off most of the year, no special efforts made to help gas mileage, and my overall mileage to date is 25.906 mpg. So I sure can't complain about the accuracy, or honesty, of Ford's estimate.

Mileage ratings on the window sticker are never accurate. One can't expect to duplicate the parameters set when making those estimates. Far too many variance factors.

I recall 'back in the day' when my Dad, bless his sole, bought a new VW Beetle. Mileage estimate then was 30mpg. As a prank, I started slipping in a quart of gas every night. Then I upped it to a gallon. Dad forever swore that his VW was MAKING gas  I guess I should feel ashamed for doing that. But I'm not; its still funny to me.
