This is my 3rd V10.. first was a 2010 F350 Dump DRW 4x4 and it got 9 on a good day. 2nd was a 2015 F450 DRW 4x4 Dump that got 7 on a good day.. This one is a 17 F450 4x4 Dump and yes..6.5 mpg. I think I have seen 8.5 or 9 a couple times when not pulling a trailer.

Screw that. I’ll take my topkick over that.

opting for the 4 speed because the 5 speed OD had a lower EPA mileage rating... back then the nationwide speed limit was 55 MPH and at that speed 5th was too tall geared.

That's strange. Often 4-speed manuals had better EPA rating than 5-speed manuals because of the way the EPA cycle ran; VW's diesel rabbit was one example.
However, automatics basically always lost the mpg rating vs a manual in that time frame as well; not only were they down a gear, but they were just generally inefficient (lock-up torque converters weren't omnipresent until more recently).

I'd be curious to see what you find the ratings were for your truck vs the 4 speed.

In 1983 it was posted on the window of the trucks when I was shopping. Your comment about the 4spd vs 5 spd concurs with what I said anyways.

Frivolous lawsuit's.. Lawyers love them and each owner will get maybe 10 cents, the lawyers get the rest. Why would anyone sign on to such nonsense..

For the same reason that somebody will spend their rent money on lottery tickets. All that they see is the big payout number.

This goes along with a theory I adopted from the airlines. Last year when they lost my luggage, they insisted it wasn't lost. Even though they couldn't tell me where it was or when it would arrive, it was technically "delayed, not lost". Uh, ok. So now I use that when my wife asks "are we lost"? Nope, just delayed.

That is quite a bit like when I leave home at 7:30 for an appointment at 8 that will take 45 minutes to drive to. I always tell myself "I'm not late, yet."

Mileage ratings on the window sticker are never accurate. One can't expect to duplicate the parameters set when making those estimates. Far too many variance factors.

I recall 'back in the day' when my Dad, bless his sole, bought a new VW Beetle. Mileage estimate then was 30mpg. As a prank, I started slipping in a quart of gas every night. Then I upped it to a gallon. Dad forever swore that his VW was MAKING gas  I guess I should feel ashamed for doing that. But I'm not; its still funny to me.

The ONLY car we ever had that got the window sticker mileage was a 1979 Toyota. My wife had looked at it and told me the sticker said it would get 41 miles to the gallon. And the thing did it. It was consistent to.

I have never really worried about the EPA estimated mpg on the window sticker. The way a person drives has so much more to do with the mpg you will see anyhow.

It does give an indication of how the vehicle performs in relation to others in it's class though. I bought my 2004 Ranger because it's smaller and lighter than the company Sierra so I can take it more places; and because of the much smaller back seat area my dog would be much safer if I ever crashed or stopped fast. However the EPA rating is less than an F150 so it would be a tough sell for me, and I don't see myself taking a brand new truck down the roads where I drive my 15 year old pickup.

The second week I had the Taco Wagon - my son & a friend went down south, with me, into the Palouse wheat fields. There are "roads" everywhere out and around the wheat fields. We were taking a short cut on one of these "roads". It had been raining for the previous two days and these dirt roads were slicker than owl snot. Definitely a 4WD situation. Over a rise and there at the bottom, in a shallow valley, the rain water ran across this road. My son wanted me to lock the front & rear differential and lock the transfer case - barrel on thru this spot.

I took a good look around - there were NO winch anchor points within a mile of this mud hole. He was disappointed when I declined. He was too young and doesn't remember all the trips and all the winching we did when in Alaska. When you are REALLY stuck - winching is not a sport - it's not a barrel of fun. It's a dirty, nasty, icky job.

When the Top 'O the World 4WD club(Anchorage) went on a club outing - we always had at least one double fluke boat anchor with us. Makes an excellent anchor point when there is nothing else. There is a whole lot of "nothing else" to anchor to in South Central Alaska.
