Like every profession and organization there are the good and bads. I have had some great experiences with cops and some bad. My dad lives by himself (in a big house with property) and doesn't get around so good. I've called the cops several times when kids and such were trying to break in or something. One time, two cops didn't care, and interrogated me while the kids walked away. Then they called me later and said they couldn't find the kids, surprise. So when they came back, I followed them in my car. They called the cops on me, and guess what, they showed up and found out who all the kids were. The one cop (4 cars and about 7 cops) started running his mouth at me. I turned to him and told him he was a f.... a...hole and he should shut his f.... mouth. All the cops looked at me and didn't say a word since they knew I was right. The sergeant that was there told him to walk away. Guess what, kids never came back.
He has several windows broke a few weeks later by some different kids. I had the video so I printed out the pictures of the kids and took it to the nearby school yard. Two kids there identified them and told their names and where they went to school. I called back the detective that was dealing with the police report and gave him their names. He cautiously asked my how I got their names. When I told them he said "wow awesome". He went to their school and the principal identified them from the pictures as two brothers. That detective was great and actually cared. Went to court and got reimbursed for the damages. Come to find out that they are "refugees" living on the MI tax payer. So, MI tax payers covered the bill.
Had another call where the cops came out due to 2 kids hanging around smoking behind the house. Cops came out filed a report and drove them home. This city has (or had, new guy suck) a community resource officer. The guy at the time was great. Came out to the neighborhoods and talked to people about what was going on. Nice guy. I called him a week later and asked him if anything came of it. He told me that he doesn't know why that officer just took them home. He said the 2 kids have a long history, and everyone knows who they are. About 3 months later, the cop who gave them the ride home, and his buddy, overdosed and died in his garage. I wonder where he got the drugs?
At my last house, my a...hole neighbor would call the cops on me and another neighbor when we were out or working in the yard (both with JD tractors). The cops would come and ask us what we were doing and we told them. They said the neighbor had a different story. I said well, ask him to see the video, cop looked confused. The a...hole and his wife would sit in the yard and video us. The cop went back an ripped him a new one for about 45 minutes. They were called twice that day. Never figured out why they didn't write him a ticket.
So you never know. I give them the benefit of the doubt, they have a tough job. I think we are living in an age where you have to video everything to protect yourself.
