Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

The 30% coupon was on that site a week ago. But with a $10 max for regular price, it's really limited in my opinion. It gets your attention until you realize you can save 'up to' $3.00.

But it's usually good for something like 5 or 6 items, so when you need a few small hand tools, it works out better.

Yeah that does work out better. I usually keep a short list of what I want/need from HF and use a 20 or 25% coupon when I'm close to a store. Plus my son is normally with me so I have him check out with another coupon too. The 30% coupons seem to have a short window to use them so it's not always convenient for me to make the drive.

Question:

I have a very old chipper shredder with a B&S engine that self ventilated. It's been sitting in the shed for years now, but the guts are still OK. I've considered buying the 6H horizontal shaft Predator a few times, but have held off so far. One reason is that in recent years, I've either been burning most all brush or stacking it for critter habitats. I'm in a situation now where I want shredded material to help amend some soil, so I'm back to thing about getting this shredder running.

One issue is that the Predator engines have 7/8" output shafts and the shredder impeller is 1". There are a few sellers out there making adapter collars in their home shops and listing them in the $10 range. A few years back, I asked one of them if they thought it would hold up under the torque/stress of a shredder and he wasn't sure if it would or not.

Has anybody tried that kind of combination?

I know I could research this thread but I am lazy. Looking for experience on HF Gantry Crane.

Telescoping Gantry Crane - 1 Ton

Looking to lift off my F-150 bed for a repair. Thoughts? Thinking of using a 25% coupon. Puts it at $555 plus tax. Seems worth it. Problem is I have no more room in my garage/shop.

I also used my HF engine hoist to remove my pickup bed one time. It worked perfect. And I also find stuff getting heavier and usually not in a convenient place. So I put the HF hoist on the front of the tractor. Now it can be used anywhere inside the shop, garage, or outside. I have got more use out of the hoist in the last year than in the previous decade, just because it is so easy to use.

Of course once the idea of a gantry crane takes a set, it can be hard to shake it loose, no matter what. The only known cure for that is to get it.

That's a pretty slick setup, Pat. Nice.

Yesterday I bought a 2 gallon sprayer, bug zapper shaped like a tennis racket, 11x18 "heavy duty" tarp, a couple of magnetic bit holders, and an impact driver extension. They didn't have the main thing I wanted in stock - a flamethrower. I'll go back soon for it and a few other things.

I can't see the 30% ever influencing me to make the drive vs. using the always available 20% especially since the max purchase is $10.

Again, the 20s are only good on one item per visit, and are better for higher priced items. The 30s are good for up to five items per visit. If you get five 9.99 items, the 30% off coupon knocks $14.98 off the total ( 30% off 9.99 x 5 ) instead of $2 ( 20% off 9.99 x 1 ) with the 20% off coupon.

All depends on what you need when.

Ah ha... I thought it was $10 total... missed the 5 items part. Now I am onboard.
