first one was purchased for 3GN competition. An inexpensive ($450) one..don't recall the brand at the moment, but a name brand.
Second one for NRA highpower competition. Rock River National Match AR - guaranteed half MOA. Heavy as all get out. Accurate too.
competition rules...while you can compete with other militiary style weapons AR's rule.
bought complete.
223 wylde - will shoot 556 or 223, 223 being more accurate and the civilian version. nobody shoots 556 except the military.
I get really really bored just shooting paper by myself at the range.
So I shoot in a weekly pistol league, PPC. Have moved from an off the shelf semi pistol to a specialized custom built revolver.
IDPA I shoot 3-4 times a year. any off the shelf pistol or carry gun will work. I've shot 5 different guns over the years.
I run teh cowboy action shooting at our gun club (SASS rules). I have 2 single action ruger pistols, a double barrel shotgun and a 97 winchester and a winchester 92.
The win 92 loaded with 357 mag is a formidable item.
While i'll shoot a varmint (ground hog, raccoon, etc) I've not hunted (went for deer one year..didn't see any).
I also have a garand for vintage matches, garand at camp perry. old and not as accurate as a modern gun (it's mil surplus afterall). It's from when men were men and they ate raw meat! LOL
I thought I would open a thread to understand the AR rifle.
I have many firearms but no AR's, lots of people have them that go to the range I am a member of, I don't see the need for me to purchase one at this point. If I use a rifle for some reason I use a bolt action rifle.
A few questions for people that have them.
1. Why did you purchase it?
2. Other than capacity what advantages do they have as opposed to a semi automatic traditional rifle?
3. Did you build you're rifle or buy it complete?
4. What caliber did you purchase and why?
5. Is the SW sport 2 Magpul MOE M-LOK a decent firearm?
I would buy one if there is something I'm missing that is important to me but so far I'm not seeing it.
I toured Windam Weaponry, pretty neat place..
I hope this stays an educational thread..
