AR Rifles..

Not political. I think why people do what they do has immense educational value and in this case why nut cases choose an AR.

If the purpose is to kill efficiently, it is an excellent choice. It is why I have them. Being a nut does not make you stupid.

Low recoil for accurate repeat shots, 30 rd magazine capacity to extend endangement time, low weight of ammo to increase load out.

I have no plans to go on a killing spree, but if I ever need to defend myself against multiple threats I want to be prepared.

Me too!
I bet the jerks that shoot up schools or community events have less than 1200rds. The average thug that does a drive by probably has less than 100rds.

I would guess someone with 15k or 30k to be more of a stable person with a hobby.

Same with # of guns. A "bad guy" only needs one. A well equipped "bad guy" probably has 3.

I wanted to get an ar, and I wanted to build my own. I have a couple rifles, handguns, and a shotgun. The ar was my next choice, plus lots of hype about them in magazines and online. So it's what I wanted. Plus it is my home defense gun. Red dot, streamlight light. Plus I wanted to sup it up from a 223/556. So I went with a spikes spider lower, cmmg guts, and a Daniel defense 300 blackout upper. It's an awesome rifle.

What scope?...Might wider angle, faster focus optics change your odds ?
Nikon P-223. I consider Nikon the best value for the money in scopes right now. I have Swarvoski and Zeiss on my deer rifles and know the difference, but for a fun gun that you are not traveling around the planet with, or any other extreme high dollar hunt, Nikon has a lot to offer.

I understand for sport use, but where do you draw the line with capacity? 50-100 rounds?

Why does there have to be a line drawn ? Most of mine are 30 round magazines.

I get all that, I buy things I'm going to use, If I have a use for something I buy it.. I was looking for a good reason for me to spend money on one, haven't heard one yet.. An AR in 22lr would be fun so I'll look into those..
I have 2 of them. They work good. Real light mostly polymer. I have an older one and the newer stile with s factory red dot. Shoots and feels just like a normal AR.

The AR is my favorite rifle platform. I don't own them in case of some possible need for firepower. That ain't gonna happen. I don't want to shoot anything but paper at the range. But I do like to do that. The M&P 15-22 is a very good light and reliable rifle. But it is not compatible with all AR accessories. A lot but not all. The newer ones have an Mloc front rail. The old ones had a quad rail. I have one of each and both are good. The base one comes with Magpul folding sights. The little lady really likes the 15-22s. But she likes all ARs.

My home defense is a 870 marine magnum. It still has 00 buck in it, but I've heard that buckshot goes through sheetrock and the preferred home defense is #8. I wouldn't want to shoot a .223 or any rifle in my house. Too easy to go through a wall and hit my wife or a kid. I would reconsider using any rifle as home defense. Especially a small caliber high velocity one.

I知 trying to think if that痴 the one my father in law has or not but I知 thinking not. He called his a carbon-15. Looks like the m&p is all polymer just like the one he has. It痴 extremely light and easy to maneuver. If light weight is your goal this is it. If you want versatility then I would get an AR15 (aluminum receivers) and put the conversion in it. Or get an AR15 and then a dedicated 22lr complete upper. Whatever you get, get plenty of magazines.

Regardless which you choose it will be fun.

The carbon-15 is a Bushmaster. I own one. Very light weapon, it is a carbon fiber upper and lower in place of aluminum.

I need to find that lake, as apparently half the firearms in the US have been lost there. ;)

I was caught off guard in that same lake I believe. I had a bunch of Glock variants, SA XDM variants, 1911 variants, 7 AR-15 variants, two AK variants and an SKS sporterized rifle in my boat when the wind took and capsized me. I really wish I could afford to buy more weapons, but I have been without a single weapon since that fateful boating accident. I've realized that I am now safer without thos silly things anyways. All I had to do was post a large bold printed sign at the kitchen phone that reads "IF EMERGENCY OCCURS, DIAL 911 AND TRY TO STAY ALIVE UNTIL THEY ARRIVE". Now I know that I am prepared for anything.
