My magazine capacity question was general thinking out loud. I'm an NRA member, guns are great and I believe the majority of US citizens cherish our Constitution and the second amendment which is quite simple... "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I certainly don't want this becoming political, but I question things which is how I learn new things.
Some people, thinking back to the original intentions of the constitution written over 200 years ago what was the intent, since guns were flintlock I assume. If the intention was (since at the time we weren't that far from British control) to "keep our militia in check" things have certainly changed! I have prepper friends who actually think that, which imho is lunacy.
If gun ownership is for home protection, shooting varmints, hunting, target practice then (again, my opinion) requires a variety of guns.
Where it gets strange having grown up in the 50s-60s is no one had an AR back then. Basically shotgun, pistol, a .22, then maybe a 30-06. My point to all this is back then most dangerous people were in jail, prison, or mental hospital. Only a few collectors I knew had anything high capacity.
I don't target practice much, when I do it's getting scope adjusted properly if it has one or a pistol, knowing how to properly aim.
It's always the way in any and everything the few lunatics ruin things for the 99.9+% rest of society. Maybe now the idea would be to purchase certain types of guns and high capacity magazines one would have to pass a thorough background check?
Any thoughts appreciated.

For the most part I'm like you with the exception that I target shoot often..

I am concerned that in the near future we may not be able to purchase certain new firearms, while I able to I figured if not for anything else, I could use it at the range and it be fairly inexpensive to do so.

I don't get to involved on the laws and background checks etc, I try to concentrate on things I can improve myself, I vote the way I see fit and I shoot firearms..

My order has been placed and I look forward to shooting on Saturday with my buddies whom are very happy they no longer have to wait for me to pull a bolt back to eject a casing..

I didn't read all 11 pages...
I thought I would open a thread to understand the AR rifle.

I have many firearms but no AR's, lots of people have them that go to the range I am a member of, I don't see the need for me to purchase one at this point. If I use a rifle for some reason I use a bolt action rifle.

A few questions for people that have them.

1. Why did you purchase it?
2. Other than capacity what advantages do they have as opposed to a semi automatic traditional rifle?
3. Did you build you're rifle or buy it complete?
4. What caliber did you purchase and why?
5. Is the SW sport 2 Magpul MOE M-LOK a decent firearm?

I would buy one if there is something I'm missing that is important to me but so far I'm not seeing it.
I toured Windam Weaponry, pretty neat place..

I hope this stays an educational thread..

1. I bought one because I wanted one, simple as that. Sort of a novelty thing; I didn't plan on using it much. Turns out to be my favorite and most often used gun.
2. Cheapest rifle ammo you will find (other than .22LR of course). Modular and cool, like legos for grown kids. Lightweight, pleasure to shoot, people are scared of them.
3. I bought it. Mossberg MMR Tactical. Cheapest AR there is. I treat it like a bastard. I ride it hard and put it to bed wet. I rarely clean it and when I do, it's half-asp. My AR is not my "baby," it's my plaything.
4. 6.65/.223. Because that's what caliber they make mossberg MMRs in.
5. Dunno, sounds fancy.

So one of the things that many people seem to forget/over look is that all of those rifles, and all the "gee-wizz bang" weapons that government have don't exactly make themselves, and they aren't made by mindless automatons either..... and neither that knowledge nor the associated skill sets are going away.

....and that's about all I have to say about that.

On that note I think congratulations to the OP are in order on pulling the trigger (pun semi-intended) on ordering one. One of the nicer perks of the magazine availability is that having multiple magazines is cheaper, and having them loaded prior to going to the range can mean more time at the range can be spent actually shooting (as opposed to reloading the firearm). .... granted that can have the downside of shooting more during a range visit, but it's probably a worthwhile sacrifice to those who enjoy the shooting sports ;)

Same with my mossberg shock wave. I bought it because I wanted it. Shot it maybe 4 x.
It's a close quarters gun.
You come in, and the shock wave sees action

This is the old Russian proverb about throwing the baby out of the sleigh to keep the wolves appeased. Just who's baby shall we throw first and how long will the wolves be appeased? Not long.

that's right, and you can bet your AZZ once they take one they won't be appeased for long and they'll come back for more !

The "militia" was expected to show up, when called, with weapons capable of service. Essentially, that means "military" hardware.

The 2nd Amendment does NOT "grant" the right to bear arms. It REITERATES an existing right -in order to provide a level of protection against corrupt government.

The Primary purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to allow FREE CITIZENS to resist their own government if/when it becomes necessary. To that point, it is I N S A N I T Y of the highest regard to allow government interference in this right. Most gun control is unconstitutional. Red Flag Laws are unconstitutional. To deny the right to keep firearms "before cause" is the same as "Prior Restraint" - which has long been ruled unconstitutional.

The problems in our society have NOTHING to do with guns. Evil abounds because we have allowed generations to become indoctrinated in SELF. Morals, ethics, absolutes ... forbidden. God ... how dare you mention Him in public. Schools have abandoned the task of education for the higher calling of social engineering. Simply put - we are reaping the harvest of a nation that has become largely morally bankrupt.

I totally agree, guns are what kept us free!. and Government should be free of religion, once God is adopted, WHOSE God should they follow?. Hopefully not the Muslim God that taught his followers to kill Americans.. the Founders of our Country looked at the way other Nations were run, and said, NO WAY!. We can do Much better!..

Looks like we have "partial" agreement :)

As for which God ... there is only one capital "G" God. All the others are little "g" gods.

Without getting into the weeds, this country is based upon the Judeo-Christian "G"od. You are free to worship, or not - but the "G"od of this nation is quite clear. Turn on the news if you want to see what happens when we turn our backs to Him.

The constitution says freedom of religion not from religion. And that the government shall not have a state religion.

The general public have had access to semiautomatic high capacity handguns and rifles for longer than most can remember and yet mass shootings are relatively new; kind of hard to blame it on weapons technology.
