...Most of the laws in place or proposed are "feel good" attempts by politicians to show the ignorant masses they are "doing something". ...

What you can expect to come is new legislation that will close the so called "gun show loophole" and you are likely to see pressure put on states to pass all new private gun sale legislation...Something else that is coming (likely at the federal level) is an act to regulate certain prescription medications and gun ownership...probably in the form of required disclosure on background check screening forms etc...

The general public have had access to semiautomatic high capacity handguns and rifles for longer than most can remember and yet mass shootings are relatively new; kind of hard to blame it on weapons technology.
Full auto wasn't restricted for a long time either was it?

There is no such thing as "gun show loophole."

What bothers me is how so-called do-gooder Progressives are not worried about a citizen's mental health until one attempts to purchase a firearm. Perhaps the deranged are reliable Democrat voters?

Don't really go to gun shows and don't know anything about the "loop holes" but the private gun sales at least in Maine require two things, 1.) someone with cash and 2.) someone with a firearm to sell. If I sell a firearm I require a FFL transfer or I don't sell it.. Many times buyers live in NY, NJ etc, they come here trying to buy guns from people that don't require an FFL transfer or even a bill of sale or even ask for a Maine ID..

These people are most likely felons.. IMO, if you are going to sell a firearm there should be a FFL transfer. When people don't require a FFL transfer they probably shouldn't have the gun in the first place..

The medication and gun subject is interesting, what about the people that are on drugs that buy them on the street?

The "loophole" refers to any gun sale private or secondary market (aka gun show) when/where there is no background check...it's called the gun show loophole but it means "private sale loophole" why I said it was "so called"...

AND ... it shouldn't be restricted now.

A criminal is a danger with a pocket knife.
A typical citizen would not pose a danger with a hand grenade.

Unless someone is a CONVICTED FELON or adjudicated mentally incompetent or a proven abuser - the government needs to pixx off.

The type/quantity of firearms you own is NONE of the government's business. The amount of ammunition you own is NONE of the government's business.

There are already laws against selling controlled substances on the street...(congress and the DOJ should constantly pat themselves on the back for all the good they're doing (TFIC))...people that buy drugs on the street can just as easily buy guns on the street...

On a side note...I'm sure they are also looking into ways to check social media identities/postings as part of "improved" background checks...regardless, in order to make the powers that be that are dead set on tightening firearm regulations etc. there will have to be more freedoms given up...IMO it is not likely taking actual firearms away or limiting personal ammo stocks etc...the freedoms that will be compromised will be those of privacy and personal information.
