Banking and Cash Vent...

But there are completely honest and upstanding people who do and get caught up in this kind of thing.

I suppose..

I try not to drive around drug area's with a pile of cash in my car at 2:00am..

That was an interesting video, I may have to check out more by him.
I was going through an obscure village late at night and rolled through a stop sign. Suddenly blue lights came on, but not for what I thought; he said that I had a taillight out... typical excuse to do a drunk test.
On another occasion I had left hunting camp for a sandwich and 6-pack. I left the store and as soon as I pulled into the road and headed back to camp the blue lights came on and again, I got the complete drunk test. (I used to get that a lot, something to do with driving an older pickup with a heavy right foot.) He said he stopped me because I took so long to get moving after coming out of the store.

I had taken the time to eat the sandwich.

Try being an honest, hardworking, taxpaying, licensed entrepreneur of Hispanic decent driving I-75 or I-10 in the middle of the afternoon and having a tire blow out, or radiator overheat or any of a dozen other simple reasons to be approached by an officer who just happens to be on a Drug Interdiction or Immigration detail.

It happens every day somewhere in America.

The original post from the OP and his problem with the bank.....that is when I change from "my long-time bank" to "my OLD bank".

Well if you are involved in illegal activities anything goes..

Times have changed
And we've often rewound the clock
Since the Puritans got a shock
When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
If today
Any shock they should try to stem
'Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock would land on them.
In olden days, a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking.
But now, God knows,
Anything goes.
Good authors too who once knew better words
Now only use four-letter words
Writing prose.
Anything goes.
If driving fast cars you like,
If low bars you like,
If old hymns you like,
If bare limbs you like,
If Mae West you like,
Or me undressed you like,
Why, nobody will oppose.
When ev'ry night the set that's smart is in-
Truding in nudist parties in
Studios.
Anything goes.
When Missus Ned McLean (God bless her)
Can get Russian reds to "yes" her,
Then I suppose
Anything goes.
When Rockefeller still can hoard en-
Ough money to let Max Gordon
Produce his shows,
Anything goes.
The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today,
And black's white today,
And day's night today,
And that gent today
You gave a cent today
Once had several chateaux.
When folks who still can ride in jitneys
Find out Vanderbilts and Whitneys
Lack baby clo'es,
Anything goes.
If Sam Goldwyn can with great conviction
Instruct Anna Sten in diction,
Then Anna shows
Anything goes.
When you hear that Lady Mendl standing up
Now turns a handspring landing up-
On her toes,
Anything goes.
Just think of those shocks you've got
And those knocks you've got
And those blues you've got
From that news you've got
And those pains you've got
(If any brains you've got)
From those little radios.
So Missus R., with all her trimmin's,
Can broadcast a bed from Simmons
'Cause Franklin knows
Anything goes.

Two of my banks don't even have branches anywhere near me. USAA only has one that I know of. Another only has a small number in their home state which is hundreds of miles away.

A year or so ago I crossed the border into the US to get my wood chipper. I had a bunch of CASH, which was below what I was allowed to have, but MAN, those border agents were extremely interested in my cash! Kind of pissed me off. I mean, if I was hiding something, why would I tell them I had it? When you are truthful to the Gov, that's when your trouble starts, it seems.

You got frisked at the border? how'd they know you had cash? Ive crossed into and back from canada and us numerous times and never recall being questioned about money.... and quite honestly, i'm a shady looking dude. I'd suspect me!

All they ever ask is where you from? Where you going? Whatcha gonna do there? When you leaving? Did you buy anything over there? Then they ask my wife if she's with me of her own free will....

God help me if she ever says "NO!" :)

How long ago? I used to drive over an back for nothing more than a tank of gas and we always used to do it with a simple wave and two or three basic questions. Now it's more like Checkpoint Charlie ... 'Your papers Please!! NOW!!'

Last time was last summer. Into canada at Windsor, out at niagara falls. in and out a few times at niagara. My kid did the same thing a couple weeks ago. No problems or hassles.

There are laws and widespread enforcement attitudes in place (both sides of the border) on this subject, that pretty much amount to Guilty, until You can prove Innocence.

(I won't drift this thread, but it would be interesting to hear from an acknowledged Legal Expert on this topic, as this type of legislative stance seems more common... Another Time.......)

Some of the macro vectors at play here:

1) If you are being a Good Little Consumer, then you are continuously carrying such a heavy personal debt load that you shouldn't have that much loose cash about. (Think my tinfoil-hat is on too tight ? :) Watch how often Weak Consumer Spending gets blamed for poor economic reports).

2) Create a Crisis, Drive and Agenda...... "Large" Cash = Criminal Behaviour......

As I've politely pushed back on the standard intrusive questions that have sprouted up in recent years, I've commented a few times "If a criminal organization is laundering money through my account, in these tiny amounts, then it's got to be one of the most unsuccessful criminal organizations in history".

3) Paypal was just a baby step. As business became more virtual, it was only a matter of time before more virtual "money" came along.

Harassing law-abiding citizens over minor amounts of money may be causing people who otherwise wouldn't be interested, to consider the various digital options out there.

4) Govts increasing efforts to enforce (and harvest taxes from) cash regulations, could accelerate the move to digital currency, potentially beyond their control altogether.

Careful What You Wish For......
