850? nice size lake. How about hitting something moving, are the tumbleweeds blowing around yet? Not sure how you would know if you hit it.
Elmer Keith shot softball-sized rocks with HGs at 100s of yards. Bob Munden popped balloons that far with .38 Spl. (see below*)
Buy which, an AR or a peasant?
A sign of true class is to to treat your servants well. Same with contract employees, 1099'ed help, and of course, the Mistress .. or no arm candy when you go out.
* My fun with ARs, and I mean 15s vs bulky 10s, is with the other dozen efficient calibers, what IMO puts the 'Modern' in MSR. (6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC/SPC II, .22 Valkyrie, .300 Ham'r, others ..)
I suggest that .223 is most fun at 200-300 yd, where it's totally adequate for game, say<100lb, but wind, weather, etc can demand the shooter to show his/her skill. What Oosik is shooting and shooting at shows how what we're born with can put food on the table far beyond the range of spears and clubs.
