oil pan removal

Yes, the pumps can have reduced output due to wear on the sides of the rotor, and as mentioned in my previous post. Do you know if a new pump was installed during the rebuild? I see the possibility of the filter head gasket being installed backwards but I don't see how it would affect oil pressure, just the relief dump?

Ok Thanks Tommy I will check that out. I am waiting on some parts from you then I will check out the adjustment under the acorn nut. I am getting a little oil at the rockers but not much. I will also check out the gasket on the oil filter housing. How much oil should I be getting at the rockers? The rebuild was done by a diesel mechanic that works in a diesel repair shop, they normally work on diesel trucks although that shouldn't make a difference. what way should the regulator be on the oil filter housing? Mostly in or mostly out to start the pressure check

I thought I bought a new oil pump to be installed in the rebuild but not totally sure. I am looking to see if I can find the receipts from the rebuild.

You won't get a lot of oil because there is a brass restrictor orifice under the first rocker shaft pedestal. If that restrictor is missing it could be a cause of lower than normal oil pressure.

It could make a lot of difference simply because of the design differences between engine manufacturers. Take me for instance, I'm factory certified for all Caterpillar and EMD engines, plus hold a federal diesel marine engineer's unlimited license, but my Chinese engine experience is limited to my own tractor.

Screwing it in will (should) raise the pressure. Screwing it out lowers the pressure. One can only hope the cause for low to no oil pressure is not from improperly installed bearings.

Addendum: If adjusting the regulator on the filter head has little or no effect on the oil pressure then we are back to the pump, bearings, restrictor orifice, or gaskets.

Ok I am back. Made sure the gasket on the oil filter housing was on correctly. Put Rotella 15W - 40 in the engine and filled to the top. Screwed the oil regulator all the way in. Put a mechanical gauge on and still no pressure reading on the gauge. Getting oil to the top of the engine. I let the engine run for an hour and even drove it around the yard for awhile. Engine runs fine, no odd noises or smoke coming out the muffler. I am totally frustrated and don't know where to go next other than a couple of sticks of dynamite or making a yard ornament.

It's a longshot, but try backing the regulator all the way out. Aside from removing the sending unit/mechanical gauge from the port and cranking the engine over to purge the port, I'm out of ideas

Ok thanks I will try that

Hi Bob, did both. Backed the regulator out all the way and removed the sending unit and ran the engine briefly. No go. still no pressure reading on the mechanical gauge.

But you did get oil from the port without the gauge installed, no?

Yes got a good flow. I am going to see if I can make a short video showing the oil flow coming out of the port and post it.
