I put one on my Robin's after i flooded the crankcase with gas, and kept it with the re-engined kohler.

I had to put one on my 1430 too. I used it a couple times to clean out the primary fuel filter when I first bought the machine.

Just read this post - sorry for not sharing the pics right away but Moss was johnny-on-the-spot.

I'll say one thing about the muffler - it gets hot quickly! I'm used to warming engines up prior to changing oil to stir up whatever gunk/metal might be in there and get it out with the oil. The oil filter is directly behind and under that exhaust pipe. When trying to remove the oil filter in that tight space, it's pretty easy for a guy to accidentally just press a part of their arm against it.......took a couple of weeks for the scabbing to clear. I now change the oil after a very brief warm up period.

Separate issue related to the exhaust - I started hearing this rattling noise and discovered that the bolts were missing from one of cylinders where the exhaust manifold mounts to the engine. The other cylinder was ok but it caused the whole assembly to get loose and rattle. Replaced the bolts, re-secured, and all was well. Probably not a systemic problem.

I actually do use the fuel shut off regularly. It's easily accessible and you don't need to tilt the seat or lift the tub cover all the way to turn on or off. I read too many accounts of flooded engines.

Does this Kohler engine backfire when you shut it off after the engine is warmed up? The 425 I had used to backfire. I thought the sound of the muffer was nice, it was also fairly quiet.

Yeah, I used the fuel shut-off valve allot on the 425 I had too. Mostly for changing out the fuel filter. This Duetz engine has two fuel filters. The primary one catches the big debris and the secondary gets the fine particles ( I assume.)

yup, it backfires when shutting off. The hotter it is, the bigger the backfire. Throttling down prior to shutting it off helps.

My 2001 model 425 never backfires when I shut down. I've had several other small engines that did, but not this one.

I have no idea what's inside that muffle box marked "HOT". Could be empty as far as I know but maybe that's what leads to the backfire. No harm as far as I can tell but kinda embarrassing when someone's there to witness. Reminds me of Jethro from that Beverly Hillbilly show.

ya, that's right, I read the "HOT" and still burned my arm so maybe I am Jethro:)

Incline...any chance you can take a few pictures of your hydraulic pumps? I'd really like to know if PT is still using the Bondioli and Pavesi pump with the Kohler engine. Thank you.

Here you go - It appears they are B&P pumps based on the stamped logo. A couple of stamped numbers as well if it helps:

128051900
P162X19 followed by 2600
P139X1

These pumps look nothing like the ones depicted in my owners manual but here they are.
