Starting a new cross cut. There is a 35-40° ridge ahead that looks more promising. Trail on left is the entrance coming up. Trail on right (previous posts) dead ends and has become too steep. I just spin all 4 wheels. The loose shale's crumbling point is multiplied by the drought we are having. 20190825_145908.jpeg

You haver inspired me!! I have a SHORT section of steep hill to conquer to allow my road to make a complete loop around my property. Right now it's an out and back. This short road would require 1 section of switchback to get to the top. I'm inspired by your will and determination to see this project through. Might not be another year or 2 until that project nears the top of the list but now I am certain I can do it. Keep on truckin'!

Starting the new cross cut, I had apparently made a built up pile at where the 3 paths meet. While backing up the steep entrance path I hit this pile and ended up teetering on 2 opposite wheels, front right and back left still touch the ground. Powering through this and proceeding to dig on the new cut, I felt the weirdest, wobbliest, fluid like movement with the tractor. I immediately went down to my barns to inspect. Most of my frame bolts were no longer tight. I cranked on all that I could (i need a thin 24 mm wrench to get ahold of the nuts on the inside of the frame). This fixed my problem. I'll get the wrench I need and tighten the rest soon.

Good catch on loose bolts.
I have to check bolts on one back tire every time, they get loose.

The turn radius needed to curve the tractor with loader and box attached is fairly significant. Keeping a comfortable rising angle, I would be too deep inward before reaching the elevation I need....if that makes sense.

Just a thought, but you do not really have to make a turn. At the end of each piece going up up you can make a landing area, and back up the next leg to the next transition point, then go forward up the next section, and so on.

Became too steep again...but still more promising. I'll keep at it.20190831_113519.jpeg

Just read all 258 posts and it’s a tremendous project you have going on, looking to following this all the way. Now I need to know how is that Piranha bar holding up for you and is it making it easier for you to get through that shale? Was it worth it?

Thanks...it's gotten a bit long I know.

I definitely wouldn't be this far without the Piranha tooth bar. It has stayed surprisingly sharp for what I've put it through. It eats through shale, brush, and medium sized roots with ease. The hours I've save by having it means it probably paid for itself by now.
