If AR is about 'round count', no caliber is cheap to shoot. (please don't suggest .. even mention S&W's plastic .22 LR AR) If it's about picking a hair and hunting with a 4-5 rd mag in a caliber other than 5.56/.223. 7.62 x 39, or .300, well there are the superb 6.5 Grendel and .300 Ham'r. That said:



I have .22 Mag Heritage revo, Rem 597 semi-auto rifle, and CZ 452 LUX. When you see how nicely centered it's ballistics and cost are between .22 LR and .22 Hornet, you'll find a lot to like about whatever you shoot your ammo through. Some calibers are just too much fun.

btw, I've shot more 'coons, coyotes, red & gray fox, and feral cats with .22 Mag than with .22 H, .22 LR, and .17 HMR combined. No lost game (vs .22 LR & Hum'r) & all one-shot kills. "Some calibers are just too much fun."

Years ago I bought a 17, I wasn't happy with the results shootings critters, I went 22 mag and haven't looked back, very underrated round..

Probably the next rifle I buy will be a .22WMR of some type. Nothing fun is cheap any more.

Look into a Kel Tec CMR30, great, accurate 22 WMR.. and shares the mags with A Kel Tec PMR30. I have both , great pairing!!

I have only fired one. We ran 100 rounds thru it rather quickly. (I wasn't buying the ammo). It ran flawlessly. I realize that 100 is not all that many, but just reporting.

I've had mine 6-7 years and probably a couple thousand rounds through it. I did break a firing pin on it once, bought three through Kel Tec, easy fix and I have a couple spares but haven't had a problem since. Very reliable in my opinion and it sits on my belt all the time.

That Henry lever action looks pretty good too.

I sometimes wish I hadn't sold my 23" bbl SS Taurus 72, but I'd also rather have the newer Henry. That said. with a Rem 597 and 30mm red dot or ATI NV, and the CZ with 4-12 x 40mm AO. I'll be ok with what I have. :cool2: The SS 72 did shoot very well with the OEM buck-horn sight, and preferred Maxi-Mag 36g HPs like the others do.
