anyone using a WoodMaxx blower??

   / anyone using a WoodMaxx blower?? #171
Hi everyone-
Hope thread is still open. I've noticed 2 things about the Woodmaxx compared to the Allied farmking blowers (only blowers I've seen in stock locally) in the 60" size. The Woodmaxx is much heavier and had a closed gearbox in oil. In the Allied it's open geared until you get into the bigger sizes. I understand the difference physically but what would the practical difference be if anything? Also the Woodmaxx has alot more spec info online. The only 2 things I can compare are weight (Woodmaxx much heavier so I assume heavier built all around) and the Woodmaxx uses heavier gauge chain.
So price is basically a wash for me one seems to be heavier unit and one has benefits of being a local deal. For additional info I have a Kubota B2650 and will be getting for use in Nebraska. So unless things really change (saying this year will be bad) it isn't going to get used like the guys up north use theirs. Maybe get away with the lighter built into to get benefits of local dealer?
Thanks a lot!

I bought an Allied 60 inch blower that came mounted to a B7200 Kubota tractor.

It was a cute set up, and was priced to sell. (Less than I was willing to spend on just the blower to be used on one of my other tractors.)

Trying to load the rig on my trailer, it was quickly discovered that the tractor would not steer! No weight at all on the front end.

Heavy duty blower construction can have it's down sides. I do find the Allied blower substantial and effective. Perhaps too effective. due to it's weight, and in spite of the oversized skid shoes I've fabricated and fitted, there was still a lot of "turf" blown with the early season snow. Last snow year started with a bang here in S. Vt. ;-)

I've since added weights to the front of the B7200, but most recently fabricated a sub-frame to mount a front blower (50 inch) that works Very well.

The 60 inch blower waits for the bigger snows along with the bigger tractor.

1. Allied has been building all sorts of farm equipment for a long time.

2. The open gear system is simple to own just like the beater manure spreaders with their oak floors, roller chain drives, open drag chains,
sprockets and bearings to use and repair. A bit stinkier to fix if you have to shovel out 300 bushels of packed bedding/ pen manure to find the broken chain or missing flights-if they are still in the manure spreader. This point is where you hope the broken chain is under the manure spreader.
3. Most important is if you have an Allied Farm King dealer nearby you can get parts sooner or the same day for that matter.

So maybe heavier Woodmaxx would actually be a disadvantage for steering? I do have a loader I will leave on. Can throw weight in there or get a bucket of snow if needed.

Thanks. It looks like all the John Deere dealers carry Allied Farm King and and here there is a John Deere dealer in about every town over a few thousand people.
So the open gear is just one of those deals that it may not last as long but makes for a simpler system? I looked in the manual to see how it's lubricated and couldn't really tell. Do you oil the chain itself?

I use "Chain Wax" on both the open chain and the open bevel gears.

Dirt doesn't collect on that lube so much. It's available at most motorcycle shops.

One thing for sure. When it comes time to replace the 90 degree gears or gearbox, I know which is less expensive. By the way, my blower must be 25 years old. The open bevel gears are looking might strong still.

Ice and snow must act as it's own lubrication ;-)

Just don't let things rust up over the off season.

Thanks! I plan on keeping it in my shed when not in use so that should help!

I have the 60" Woodmax on a B21 TLB which weighs 3800Lbs with the BH, and I believe the BH weighs 700 pounds. The Woodmax is 700 Lbs and it is on the 3Pt arms so the weight is further back than the BH (being close coupled to the tractor) and I do notice the weight difference but it doesn't impact the performance.

Two things - the weight doesn't really matter when you are on a hard surface (paved drive like we have) as the skid shoes are carrying most of it, but if you are on soft ground or gravel I can see the weight allowing the skid shoes to dig in more.

I did put UHMW over the skid shoes a bit wider than the metal ones and they work well.

Bottom Line - both will work well, and for your 2650 its a bit lighter than the B21 so I think the Farm King unit would be fine and a little lighter overall.

I have a mahindra 1533 shuttle and am looking at a sb-72. My question is this. The specs on my tractor says the pto hp is 25. The specs on the sb-72 say at least 25 hp. Is anyone else running a sb-72 with about 25 hp? I checked with woodmaxx themselves and the said it would work but you would need to go slow and it would not throw snow as far as a unit paired to more hp at the pto. Just wondering how it would be at the minimum.

Call Empire Tractor and ask for a price on the MK Martin Series 1000 60 inch cut single stage snowblower.
The shuttle shift on your mule will be a perfect pairing for the single stage 60 inch snow thrower and you can
run it at a higher PTO RPM as well. They are made in Canada.

You will be much better off power wise and torque wise as the single stage is more energy efficient and
easier to maintain with no shear pins to worry about and the single stage snow blower rotor rotates at
650-700 RPM as standard and you can change the drive and driven sprockets to increase the snow blower
rotor speed.

Growing up I had an 1967 IHC cub cadet with 12 horsepower and a single stage 42 inch snow thrower and
it had no issues throwing the snow 50+ feet.
The early 1970's simplicity and 1980's wheel horse lawn and garden tractors we had worked very well with
the single stage snow blowers they were equipped with as well.
