My AR -15 is not for hunting....it is simply for FUN SHOOTING!

Back when I was tasked with "trying" to maintain the wild hog population on a 1600 acre ranch in Texas an AR with a 30 round mag was the tool of choice for that particular job!

Yes, squirrels and such with a 500 S$W, you bypass all that skinning and gutting stuff!! (don't ya know it? ;))

.. here's a pic of a beaver I shot a month or so back with .. 223 my daughter learned on, lasered at 116 yards off a floating dock!

Nice shootin! Proof here that no follow-up shot was needed. No AR needed either. Pity the caliber is so difficult to separate from 'black guns' association.

Remember Dick Metcalf, the pistol writer? He caught on to MSRs very quickly. He wrote that when .45-70s were passing through hogs and tracking was needed, .223 dumped all energy into animals and 'dropped' them more consistently.

Got .224" 65g SGKs? (.22 cal) ;)

WOW.. I grew up in town, BB and pellet guns were the tools of the trade as a kid.. And I agree.. you are sad...

So, I'm a poor marksman because I didn't shoot a lot of 22s growing up?? Really?? Again, WOW just WOW!!

22 mag fits the bill on the couple of guns I have in that caliber, nice having a semi auto pistol with 30 rounds in the handle while I'm out in my woods.. and it weighs 19 OZ fully loaded!

And I reload everything from 223s and 380s, all the way up to 500 S$W, Been doing so for 30 something years, so It has nothing to do "a step up".. just a preference , and again, I do agree with you on the fact that you are sad!!

Yep... a marksman needs a 30 round .22 Mag pistol in the woods...you have proven the point.

Anyway, still feel sad for you and others who never had the chance to shoot .22's in their youth or had a chance to hunt small game with one, or learn to put meat on the table with a single shot .22.

Yes indeed, in all those years with my daughter hunting with me, A.. she never missed one she shot at, and, B we never lost one, most dropped in their tracks or close to it.(Loaded with 64gr SPs)

Not sure on the 45/70 passing through hogs and tracking being necessary, I did not encounter that problem.. BUT.. my best rule on hunting hogs was given to me by an old timer.. Stick it in its ear! Works every time!

And dang.. now I'm getting to be an old timer...

Apparently you have never had a feral hog charge you.. I have. One well placed shot with a 22 will do you no good in that instance.. so sad for you..

And oh.. I did see your "handle", its very exciting... "shooterdan".. did you win that name at one of your little rimfire contests or did you.. Wait a minute.. You got it the same way we all did.. you typed in in when you signed up! And just because someone like say Lucile Ball signed up as say Hulk Hogan.. doesn't make her a great wrestler now does it?:D

In practical terms, anyone who has not shot a lot is not much of a marksman; and those skill are developed inexpensively with the .22LR.

I love shooting 22 and always have but you don't need to shoot a lot to be a marksman, my lady friend shoots about 500 rounds a year and can out shoot most people any day of the week including me. A lot of people don't correct their shooting issues with thousands of rounds, they correct it with making changes to the way they shoot..

Shooting a lot of rounds is a waste of money if you can't figure out how to shoot to begin with..

Yeah, nothing my 22 mag wont do.

I get it. Check the price difference between .22LR and 22 MAG.

Besides that, check the bullet weight on .22 mag subsonic vs .22LR subsonic and you own a suppressor. Let me know which one you would buy;)

What people ALWAYS fail to reconize is if you want shoot quiet. Subsonic equals the playing field substantially IMO.

Completely agree!! I was a motorcycle instructor for years ,and when talking to some people about taking a class their response was always "I've been riding for years I don't need a class" uh huh, right.. (and normally those are Harley guys), they've been doing things WRONG for years, watching them ride makes that painfully obvious ,and amusing sometimes. Same thing with shooting or anything else.. doing it a lot or for a long time does not make someone good at it!

Again, If I were to want a suppressor I'd want it on something bigger than a rimfire..
