I have shot .22LR with a Lever Action Rifle I purchased through Seaers, so long ago I don't want to mention when, but it was and still is fun to shoot. My granddaughter, 6 yr old, is learning to shoot it, a little heavy for her yet but with me holding it up some, she is learning to shoot and WE are having a BLAST together. I still shoot the old lever action myself, when I want to get away and play.
I still shoot a "22" but it is a .223/5.56, one of the best rifles I have ever used, and that includes a couple of year in Nam, accurate as ****, dependable, more than my 1968 version was, and still fun to shoot.
I also shoot and use as my Home Defense, is my Springfield 9mm, this one iagain is fun to shoot, accurate, feels good holding it and shooting it. Friends say to get a big boys gun , a .45, or .44 mag, but why I like what I like.
Came to range the other day with a 22WMR Pistol... NICE ! Yes it isn't a .45 or a .44 mag, or a 50 cal, but it has a kick, is pretty good on accuracy, but the best part is it gets attention when shooting and everyone want to try it out. Finding ammo is a pita, but when I have ammo it is great to keep the family busy shooting for an afternoon... WITHOUT CELL PHONES.
So where is this going, it is my attempt to curb the .22LR postings, the sis AMERICA, we do, we shoot, we say (almost) what we want, so I am just saying let not get too carried away over one caliber vs another.
One more point, I went varmint hunting back in NH, fun tine, Woodchuck... wow, can they take a hit. We were shooting a .22 Hornet Rofle, single shoot, not sure of the year of the rifle, had to be an early one, it had what I would call a Breech-Load, the top of the rifle would drop at an angle and you would slide in a round. Man when that fired it would sound off like a M-14 (30-06) going off, loud... YES, but when you hit a Chuck, the Chuck would fall back, sometimes get up for a second but you could be sure if the hit was a good one that Chuck was done for.
Another thing that is similar to heavy discussion of Caliber favorites... I own a Ford Truck and have for years... come on Chebby Fans !
Thanks for reading, enjoy shooting, its a family thing !
