I use AmmoSeek a bit.

Usually I wait until SGA is the best price for what I want. 'always on the look out for reloadable brass at reasonable cartridge price. Sam has a pretty good selection. with fair shipping fees.

Using the same outfit make the order process easy.

Agree with a lot of that as SGAmmo is frequently the best price on the calibers I'm looking for (especially after shipping, and adding the potential mix of calibers and ammunition types I'm buying at a single time).

Interesting exchange wrt to the .22Mag.

It has always seemed quite a useless cartridge to me. Overpriced ammunition and underpowered for any useful work. For fun and plinking the .22LR or reloaded.38 Spl. cannot be beat.

Small caliber duties fall to numerous AR’s and a sweet little Howa mini-Mauser. I reload .223 for the cost of .22Mag and have a better tool.

But whatever floats your boat.

Kind of my thoughts on the 22lr, yeah its cheap but I cant really find a purpose for it.

Feel sorry for anyone that thinks like that. Imagine....Never been a kid that had the fun of shooting a whole weekend for a few dollars, or had any kids to do that with, or grandkids...sad in my mind.

In practical terms, anyone who has not shot a lot is not much of a marksman; and those skill are developed inexpensively with the .22LR.

But I am biased...my handle gives me away. I am a shooter and have been for over 60 years. Competed a lot. I am no "natural" so practiced a lot, and I have put over 500k .22's downrange so far. My largest purchase was 50k .22's when I was in college and shooting on the rifle and pistol teams. Paid $.49 a box....way back then. I still keep about 20-30k .22's on hand. Ordered another case when I saw them on sale a couple of weeks ago for $.03/rd.

Just never had the itch for a .22 Mag when I could do better and cheaper by reloading .222's. Now it is the .223/5.56. I suppose if someone does not reload the .22Mag offers a step up. Those of means may even used it for plinking...but I am too cheap. LOL.

Any varmint, skunk, woodchuck, porcupine or coyote within 75 yards gets a 40gr 22 mag out of a bolt 24 inch barrel, very effective underrated round..

WOW.. I grew up in town, BB and pellet guns were the tools of the trade as a kid.. And I agree.. you are sad...

So, I'm a poor marksman because I didn't shoot a lot of 22s growing up?? Really?? Again, WOW just WOW!!

22 mag fits the bill on the couple of guns I have in that caliber, nice having a semi auto pistol with 30 rounds in the handle while I'm out in my woods.. and it weighs 19 OZ fully loaded!

And I reload everything from 223s and 380s, all the way up to 500 S$W, Been doing so for 30 something years, so It has nothing to do "a step up".. just a preference , and again, I do agree with you on the fact that you are sad!!

.500 S&W & .38 Spl for squirrels & most other game. What sensible, intelligent reloader would even bother with rimfire calibers.

Atsah, are you just trying to muck up somebody's thread with your myths of hunting success? :D

:drink:

btw, where's the thread showing pictures of game mounted or barbecued that was shot with an AR in .223/5.56?

I mean so few rounds fired, and yet so much to show for it, but hidden. And don't ya just love how sleek those new 60 rd AR 15 mags are? Let's go hunting!

Bring an AK too, in case we need the extra firepower. Make 'em both pistols, one for each hand. No point in letting an arm just hang there. :p

Yes, squirrels a and such with a 500 S$W, you bypass all that skinning and gutting stuff!!

Well I don't have any pics of game mounted or BBQ'd that was shot with a 223/5.56, but I've eaten plenty of deer shot with a 223, that's what my daughter learned to hunt with starting at age 11.

BUT.. here's a pic of a beaver I shot a month or so back with that same little 223 my daughter learned on, lasered at 116 yards off a floating dock!
