Yep, politicians. They did away with mental hospitals and with this one act created the vast majority of the problems we are having with homelessness, wack jobs with guns any many other problems. I really don't think many, if any,are smart enough to have done this to add to their power but that is the end result. They need a permanent underclass in society to maintain control.

We need an effective term limit provision and a maximum age limit with these people but since they are the ones who will have to approve anything like that it will never happen unless the voters get smart enough to not vote them into office election after election. The biggest problem is our voters are too lazy to research and change office holders after a couple of terms.

If similar legislation to what I described above is passed...
when you sign the form for a new gun purchase either from an individual through a FFL holder or a retail vendor...(including any past sales/background check records they have)...you will be stating that you agree to inform the powers that be that you no longer own/posses a particular gun either by sale or theft (along with a sales number and or a police report #)...

It's NOT about how effective any given (new) law is...and it's NOT about laws that have already been passed and have failed to prevent some innocent deaths...It is about enacting a system that can fully filter out the kooks...

No they can't do anything about any firearms they have no previous record of no matter how many times it has changed hands...
I would wager any new sales restriction legislation will have some reporting clauses where it a "citizen's duty" to report the ownership of a particular type of firearm (aka assault rifle and possibly lg cap. pistol mags etc...)
There is nothing they can really do about unreported ownership...BUT...

...In most states...if 911 is ever called from a residence...the local police have the right to search every square foot of a home (if they are not satisfied with the encounter of the call)...it would not take much of a stretch for them to amend those search rights to include confiscating any unreported firearms...it would be a scare tactic to get people to report ownership...

BTW...laws are just guidelines for honest people...!

Did you know that a low battery in a cordless land line phone can inadvertently dial 911 ?

Even if a child accidentally calls 911 it will be investigated...

What prevents someone from using an unregistered (burner) phone from giving your address and calling 911 ?

If the authorities are not satisfied with the explanation for a 911 call they have unlimited authority to search for possible victims etc...

BTW...shooting or threatening to shoot someone is not the solution to every problem... (if all you have is a hammer every problem looks like a nail)...

just sayin...!

Term limits is not the answer...the electorate has the power to elect or not to elect...

Term limits can be like throwing the baby out with the bath water...better to use the election process...

Or they have a dog on duty, one day flying out of Salt Lake the line to get into security was very long, they had everyone line up single file, then ran a dog down the line. After that, they said leave your shoes on, leave laptops in your bags, etc.

That is a great idea. I haven't seen that. Of course it has been a few years since I flew commercial. Bring on the puppy!

Yep. I remember when it happened here. The place closed and there were a few walking around with rolling suitcases.
