I agree, nice gen. My sister is trying to get a Generac 22kw put in her house in Muir Beach, and she keeps getting $20k estimates.
She has had one before, paid 10k to get one installed in Princeton NJ. Mine was a thousand less across the river in PA.
I have the same gen now on my house here. So we know the pricing and I guess it's just a Gold Rush for electricians in California now.
They have so many requests for gens now they manage their business, and apparently make a ton of money, by gouging the heck out of folks
who don't know better. Electrical reality in California is not good.

Lou, my Ram with the hemi and the eco rear is rated for only 7800 pounds but it pulled my 7000 pound travel trailer super easily. Clearly that
truck/motor has a lot more capability if set up right, but I've got air bag suspension and maybe that impacts on the capacity choices.
Today I think the truck is rated in the 12-13k range if set up right. Personally if I was pulling more than five ton I'd get a bigger truck.
You were at five tons so just a traction issue. Sure does sound nice when winding out under load doesn't it? ;)
Thank goodness for tractors!

Wow, that is terrible. I built a house in TX 2 years ago. Paid $6400 for a Cummins whole house unit (I forget exactly, but a little over 20kW) with transfer switch. It was another $1000 to install them.

On Gordon's question. PG&E has neglected maintenance for decades, meaning not enough tree trimming and replacement of aging physical plant. The last several years the chickens have come home to roost with terrible wildfires, loss of life and property. Their response? To avoid more wildfires this season, they will just turn off the power when conditions are dry and windy. For up to 48 hours routinely and even as much as a week at a time. That is a lot cheaper for them to do than actually get on top of maintenance. When asked what about businesses, police, fire services, medical providers, and ordinary people that depend on electricity, their answer is, you need a good backup plan.

Even without purposeful outages, their service has always been pretty bad. So a lot of people and businesses are finally setting up backup generators on the assumption (like me) that there is no reason to expect anything better for the foreseeable future and it could get worse.

Pat, after reading your response I am speechless. One of the givens in my life has always been utilities that bend over backwards and always go the extra mile to provide as continuous as possible quality service. We knew we were lucky and had great appreciation but had no idea how well off we really were.

utility company here is same way Gordon, spotless trucks, constant maintenance, and while I lose power at least once every two weeks, they get it back
on pretty quickly. Sounds like California is bad news, like BP before the big refinery fire.

Spent about 2 hours removing some more Sumac with the Piranha bar and also tried out my front forks I bought, they attached right to the bucket and even worked just fine with the Piranha bar left on so I moved a pallet full of odd and end wood I picked up out of the Sumac.
From yesterday.

This is what it looked like before I started.

I was just quoted 5,600 for a 12kw generator installed, all I would need is a 250 gal propane tank and have it plumbed in, right now I have my 20 year old Coleman 5500 running watt gen which I have to manly hook up when power goes out, no fun at -30* in blizzard conditions hahaha.

I would imagine that the tree huggers in California will not let them clear power line right of ways of limbs and then blame it on climate change just like the forest, if you do not defoliate the dead stuff from the forest your just asking for out of control fires, then again they can blame it on climate change, I am glad I do not live in Cali, used to vacation there in the 70’s and early 80’s not no more, just like I do not go to Minneapolis anymore I would rather spend my money around where I live and watch my sport teams on tv.

I have a Harbor freight 8700 watt gen out in one of my outbuildings for back up, I've got the outbuilding wired to the house so all I have to do is plug it into an outlet out there and start it up, pretty simple really. (and turn off the main breaker o the house as to not electrocute the power guys working on the lines)

Yeah, califiornia has just gotten too stupid for their own good!
