Depending on the age and configuration that Ram 3500 may have had a towing capacity of 35,000 so that might not have been too far beyond spec.
35k is only for a few versions of a 2019 Ram and the highest combined weight is around 43k I think.
This was a 3rd gen 4wd quad cab so the highest possible combined GVWR was 23,000 lbs for a 2wd regular cab... Maybe less for that model.
D6C is a 30,000 machine, at least an 8000 lb trailer and an 8000 lb truck so it was easily 42k lbs, maybe 45 or 46k which is over for even a 2019 and about double the max for that truck.
