Depending on the age and configuration that Ram 3500 may have had a towing capacity of 35,000 so that might not have been too far beyond spec.

35k is only for a few versions of a 2019 Ram and the highest combined weight is around 43k I think.

This was a 3rd gen 4wd quad cab so the highest possible combined GVWR was 23,000 lbs for a 2wd regular cab... Maybe less for that model.

D6C is a 30,000 machine, at least an 8000 lb trailer and an 8000 lb truck so it was easily 42k lbs, maybe 45 or 46k which is over for even a 2019 and about double the max for that truck.

The brakes on 3500# axles are not that good when both have them. Only on 1 seems like a bad idea. All mine have them on both including my 2019 tilt bed.

The John Deere dozer on that tandom truck was only 21,000 pounds.

I just checked that site and I need to put brakes on the front axle of my utility/car trailer (when I move to Georgia next year). It has 3500 lb. axles and is registered in Florida as 6000 lb. but only has one axle with brakes.

Check out Eastern Marine for brakes - amazingly cheap.

I saw this guy today. And I wasn稚 moving when I took the picture View attachment 621137

How in the heck can someone use a pintle hitch like that, that痴 crazy.

I used to weld pintle hitch assemblies( plate, hitch, electrical, air) onto 53 foot trailers so our company could run doubles, 53 and 48 footers across ND.

Many people seem to have no sense about simple physics, material strength, stresses, etc.

I saw a popup camper getting towed through town yesterday with remnants of tire on one side and a very ruined rim. I don't think that they even knew they had a flat.
I have that issue pulling something with my service truck. Even with the back up camera display on, I can't see the tires, just monitoring the hitch.

I have a couple flats on something I'm pulling this year. First was a tire actually blowing. That one was obvious. Heard the bang and saw the equipment swerve into the mirror view. Pulled over and checked and sure enough.

Second one, I saw chunks of rubber flying, and the person tailgating the equipment backing off pretty fast. :D That one was in a construction zone. I kicked on the flashers and beacon lights and dragged it a mile down the interstate till I got to a spot where I wasn't a target while changing the tire. Had two DOT cruisers show up and run interference for me even though I was about 20ft off the road in a brake down lane for the entrance ramp to a closed inspection station. Guys even helped me change the tire

Third one, I didn't even realize it was flat till I got to where I was going. That piece of equipment was a tandom axle. Rubber split into two halves just like a split rim. But no rubber chunks flying. Figure that one went out about a 1/2 mile to 1/4 mile from my destination. That road had pot holes inside of pot holes, with the occasional random crater carved in the asphalt. I usually end up slowing down to between 5 and 10 mph in spots and sometimes cross into the other lane to avoid some of the worst ones. This time traffic didn't allow for it and one of the tires found a crater.
