I am trying to put together my YMM-45 deck that was tore apart by someone else. They had the 2 outboard spindles in pieces to re-build them. I have the new bearings and all but 2 seals (working on that). I blasted all the parts and will probably just powdercoat them for durability.

Now, The problem is I don't have any exploded views or information on how to re-assemble the spindles. Does anyone have any information on this and recommended pre-load procedure for the tapered bearings? I also am going to need a locknut for the middle blade as the heat required to break it loose melted the nylon.

Any Help would be great!

Winston, yes I know Gary as well. I got an air cleaner housing off him a few weeks ago. I think I have all the parts I need though, just need to see how to approach the re-assembly and if there are any special issues to address. I'll shoot him an e-mail anyway.

That helps! is there a procedure for pre-loading the tapered bearings?

Also do you know what #23 is the first pic?

The manual calls it a 'cup washer -5/8'

is there a procedure for pre-loading the tapered bearings?
It does not mention anything in the manual. I would just set them like a trailer axle tapered bearing which is usually: Tighten the nuts fully tight, rotate the spindle a few times in each direction to be sure everything is seated, loosen the nut completely, then re-tighten just beyond finger tight.

Thanks for the Information! I also just received information from Gary so I hopefully will be good to go.

Did Gary have any advice on preload?

No, there doesn't seem to be any specifics on that so I'll just use the method above. It looks like the only thing I am going to need is a new locknut that holds the spindle in. Item 9 on the spindle. Should be able to find that locally once I get the size.
