B-17 Lost at CT Airport

As a Vietnam Vet I respect that.

In this regard, he's an idiot.

First... Thoughts & Prayers to everyone affected by this Accident... which is what is was

Second.... The Media is useless (I live in CT) & as sad as it is this is just something for all of them to make "news" about... gives them something to talk about... & to speculate about.... "Facts" almost none...

Third, I rarely make a statement on politics (even though I have many)... Richard Blumenthal is an Idiot.... & as a Connecticut Resident my apologies for you all having to deal with his rhetoric... for some reason this state keep voting in idiots...

However just a little fact finding will show he is not a great person (but definitely a politician):

QUOTE: (from multiple places on the web... oh & actually true):
Blumenthal received five draft deferments during the Vietnam War, obtaining first educational deferments, and then deferments based on his occupation. With part-time service in the reserves or National Guard generally regarded as an alternative for those wishing to avoid serving in Vietnam, in April 1970 Blumenthal enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and he served in units in Washington, D.C., and Connecticut from 1970 to 1976, attaining the rank of sergeant. During his 2010 Senate campaign, news reports that Blumenthal had claimed that he'd served "in Vietnam" created a controversy Blumenthal denied having intentionally misled voters, but acknowledged having occasionally "misspoken" about his service record and later apologized for remarks about his military service he said had not been "clear or precise".

Not the first time he has not been "clear or precise" either...

Not saying he didn't serve (I appreciate that)... but even in a sly / joking (hopefully not serious) matter he is NO "Vietnam war hero" that he made mention to; Its an insult to the people that Really served & sacrificed....

Ok off my CT soapbox...

Truly my Heart & Prayers go out to everyone effected...

I AM A VIETNAM VET too......and I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT respect Senator Richard Blumenthal!
My comment about him being a Vietnam veteran was completely tongue-in-cheek.
He is a liar!
The worst of the worst.
He LIED ABOUT SERVICE IN VIETNAM !!!!
Blumenthal NEVER SERVED A DAY THERE!

Back to Earth, insurance on a normal, 'modern' plane must be bad enough, I can't even imagine what it would cost to insure something like this.

A winky face or rolling eyes might have been appropriate. Without them, to the unknowing, you lied about him as well.

A B-17 can continue to fly with more mechanical flaws than any plane made today.

But I'm sure Insurance Companies would say differently.

The Collins Foundation is a outstanding group that takes these WWII and other military aircraft from being a pile of rubble to being restored to the the aircraft they once were. Will be interesting to see and what is found that caused this aircraft to go down. They fly the F4 Phantom I worked on during the Vietnam war. Takes big bucks and expert maintenance to keep these birds airworthy. Accidents happen and more so with vintage aircraft. So sad to see lives lost and may they all Rest in Peace !

THE exact plane, or the type/series?

I messed around with radios on F4s and F106s, but not enough to remember much.

Not the exact one they fly. But this F4D was in the same squadron ( 13th TFS ) I was in, at Udorn RTAFB Thailand during Vietnam. I was a crew chief on the D model 65-0796. Here is a link to this F4D of the Collins Foundation.....Collings Foundation's F-4 Phantom II Takes to the Skies Again! I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning !!

They are an awesome group of people!
Old school values that I can relate to.
They love their countrys history, and try to give those who care at all, some of the most amazing personal up front access to it.

Hoping slick soulless politicians keep their uneducated influence out of this and let it be what it is... an accident involving a great group of people and some unfortunate passengers on a vintage aircraft that helped end a world war.
