As the title says i finally got off of satellite TV and am using a digital Tv antenna for my tv programs. I can get 29 channels, about 15 I watch.

What antenna did you get?

I'm wanting to do the same, but keep putting it off

I have never owned a Tivo DVR but am interested in the idea.
I have a couple questions about the DVR.

Does the DVR always have make those 'circus' bebop noises when using the remote?

And will the Tivo record programs on it's own based it what it thinks you might like?

Those are both configurable options in the settings. They are on by default, but I turned them both off.

FWIW, the fans in my TiVo never went totally bad. They started making a fair amount of noise. It was loud enough that I had to turn the TV up to hear it over the DVR fan.

In both cases, the noise mysteriously went away several days later. That was AFTER I already had a replacement in route. So I went ahead and swapped out the unit.

I知 glad to hear that those problems are not typical. Hopefully this TiVo will last a good while.

We like our TiVo other than after 2.5 years the TiVo Bolt tuners are starting to die. At first I thought it was a weather/antenna issue with signals dropping and pixelation...issue is only temporarily fixable by a hard reboot.

Unfortunately the TiVo subscription is based on the device NOT the account - so they've informed me I am SOL now that my unit died and have to pay again for another subscription. WTF

Ugh, great way to make your customers want to leave for good. They've offered me a discount on a new unit - BUT - being Canadian they will only sell me the lower end unit with smaller HD and less tuners as replacement. Way to go TiVo, strike 2!

With regards to antenna I stacked two Channel Master 4228HD antennas with a CM amplifier and am consistently pulling in channels at 50-70+ miles. The negative of the new pizza box antennas is that they are highly directional so it's harder to pull weaker channels off axis. You may need a rotor depending on where you get your signals from.

Channel Master makes quite a few antennas. How about a picture? Sounds like a 4221HD or 4228HD; 4 or 8 bay UHF respectively.

i trend to attach picture but can't. it looks like there are 4 barely detectable sections. thats all a can say. sorry. darn thought i goof it up. there it is!!!!!!!

Thank you. The picture helps a lot. I'm leaning towards this one, but haven't made my final decision yet.

Eddie - That has 9% 1 star reviews. I didn't look closely at the 5 star reviews, but I wouldn't be surprised if many were phony. I started with some cheap amazon ones until I grabbed a Channel Master. Night and day difference! After getting my first cheap on from amazon, I read the reviews closer. If you give the company a 5 star review, they will send you a second antennae for free! That explained a lot of the reviews... If you're more than 15 miles from the antennae, you won't be sorry that you spent the extra money on one of Channel Masters products.
