We have a ton of red squirrels around too with all the softwood cones. Baffles work on the winter bird feeders and once in a while one gets into the garage which bothers me. But they seem to be a sucker for a rat trap baited with peanut butter with embedded sunflower seeds. The one that stay outside are fine.

A couple posts back OP showed his son's blade setter/sharpener and there seemed to be some interest in it. I just saw this Woodmizer setter on the FF and thought maybe someone would be interested but I don't know any thing about this type equipment. I am from the hand setting and filing of carpentry hand saw days.

It's coming, I see geese fly over this afternoon, heading to S.C. I presume. So to get prepared, I swept the chimney, it needed it, fixed up my kindling shelf and pumped up tires on my firewood cart. The shelf I had was to small for the bundle of kindling so I made it bigger with removable stakes, now I can take a whole bundle and slide it in easy without playing 52 pickup. It was another one of those 1 hr projects that took 3 hours, so I ran out of time to get my saws ready, wanted to clean and sharpen before next weekend, guess I'll kick that can down the road a couple days.

Saw a couple flocks of geese today also , not sure where they’re going , I’m in Chicago . What species is your kindling? I use pine ( I have lots of cutoffs) . Ever use fat wood for starting? I’ve enough fat wood stumps to last the rest of my life I think, something new to me since coming to SC.
I need to sweep my chimney also and get my wood set up at the house also, fall is coming

Mix bag of soft wood kindling, mostly hemlock these bundles were cut up last year. I had SS liner put in my chimney 2002, stayed fairly ckean first 5 years, then it got a little creosote build up, cleaned it with a steel brush now every year I have to clean it, sometime twice a year, after I read not to use a steel brush on SS liner I bought a plastic brush.

I pulled out my tippy dumpster and loaded it with firewood. I wish I had a dozen more dumpsters but they’re expensive. It would be nice if my M59 would lift that but I doubt it will.

Yes, only a plastic chimney brush on stainless. Buildup brushes right off.

I have a question. Here is a picture of my woodshed. It is 4 ft deep x 24 ft long x 8 ft high. No matter how I stack my wood after a couple months it starts to fall out. I have to run the 2x6 's to hold it in. As you can see in the right side of stack i throw in a lot of cross pieces of wood to try to make the stack lean against the back wall. The back wall is plywood. The shed faces SSW so it gets sun from noon on.

Any suggestions how to stack so wood stays in w without help.20190602_141435.jpeg

A long high row of stacked wood like you have is always drawn towards the sun and eventually tips over. Green wood as it dries unevenly from the sunny side. I would try putting in some vertical posts, 2X4's or poles, every 6' or so so you have several bays instead of one long one. Or some more plywood sections like you have in there all ready. That way you won't have a middle section hanging out so far it will tip. I have two 7-1/2 foot wide by 7 foot tall bays and it stays OK.

You have something against Air conditioning?? I could not live in a house without!!

You need heat in the dead of winter, and Air conditioning the rest of the year!! :D

Nothing against it just don't need it. Our 1st story stays around 76* when it is 90*+ outside. The beauty of having half a block house not to mention our valley usually has a slight breeze and we have window fans.
