Thought this was a tractor forum, not a car forum?
Still waiting for you to buy an electric tractor.......
Ford F-15 Electric Coming As Early As 221
5030 you are correct and its name tractorbynet makes that point clear. This thread deals with Rural Living. The rechargeable hand tool thread kind of lead to info about rechargeable cars, trucks and tractors.
The link above drives home electric trucks are going to become apart of the way rural America is going to move tractors, produce, cattle, etc more and more over time.
When it hit me a few months ago that EV's were not only coming but that they are NOW here that I needed to address my ignorance on the subject.
Charging stations are few and far between in rural America but Walmart and others are addressing that fact already along the interstate systems. EV dealerships are few and far between in rural America. Few Nissan dealerships are even permitted to sell the Nissan Leaf today. Will your rural Ford dealer be permitted to sell the F-150 EV?
In fact there are more unknown than there are known's today perhaps.
Living in rural America it took me a 16 hour day to touch and drive my first all electric car and to trailer it home behind my 2010 F-150 on a U-Haul vehicle hauler rated to carry a 5500 pound vehicle. It was over 400 miles of driving and half were loaded miles mostly in the dark. While Leafs have been on the market for nearly 10 years I saw my first one in Murray KY about a month ago. The rumor is Cracker Barrel is getting EV chargers in Murray KY and one new hotel has one J1772 and two Tesla Destination chargers I saw last week.
5030 there is so much to learn and do associated with EV ownership and since I am slow I wanted to get a head start. While I have read 100+ hours this summer after realizing EV's are here now and they are not going away. Today I paid $369 for just a 30 foot a special extension cord to run from a 220 volt outlet that I have to install that will then plug into the car's built in charger. The adapter to be able to use Tesla Destination chargers when there are no J1772 available in rural America was $100 less than the special extension cord with the J1772 on one end of 30 foot extension.
How to care for an $8000.00 to $18,000.00 EV battery pack (a semi truck battery would be more like $100K to replace I expect) so one does not miss charge/use it has a learning curve. My three year old Leaf (21.6K miles) came with a compromised battery that has a 30% decrease in its reported life expectancy but Nissan stands behind it for another 5 years or 78K miles. It has lost 3 of it 12 health bars. Nissan will be involved only after it loses 4 bars. Most Leaf's of the same age and mileage are still report 12/12 bars. In my case the Nissan dealership did not know if the issue is with the battery or the software readout or something else. 8/12 bars will trigger Nissan's effort to come up with answers and solutions. It is rare but all EV brands have battery failure.
5030 I hope you are seeing EV's are not just city slickers issues but they are coming to tractor owners in one shape or another and burying our heads in the sand is not in the best interest of the tractorbynet readers. I am learning a lot from the post of others on this EV thread. Buying one with a known problem is going to force me to learn more sooner I expect. While there is no way to talk to the former lessees because the dealership bought it directly from Nissan leasing I am working from physical evidence that I am finding to build some possible scenarios going forward. The car looks like a new one inside and out and is top of the line (SL) with the optional 4 camera vision feature. This is awesome for me parking since I have no movement right or left or up or down in my neck. I am looking forward to a self driving version one of these days.
When people do not have to give up driving due to health reasons is going to be a great day for rural folks.
