Is this a scam? Is the dealer pulling my leg? Extra transmission gear needed for open station L6060?

It's why I always like to buy stuff on the lot. CASH and CARRY. What you see is what you get. I think your bargaining power is greater too.

I would scrap the deal, and I think you have the grounds to do so. Start all over. I also would not approve of a dealer taking apart my new factory fresh tractor.

Did you spec the list the products? or did the dealer? If you said you wanted mid PTO and they looked up and put the product number on the quote, then it should be on them to make it right. If you had a list and they quoted from that, I would say you have some responsibility, perhaps they provide the part and you split the labor? The dealer should have known it needed the extra pieces and quoted accordingly.

Sounds like they basically ordered the tractor wrong because they weren’t familiar enough with the products they are selling to order it correctly. Now they are trying to pass off costs to you. I really wish you good luck in getting this squared away. I would also not personally want a brand new tractor that has just been split by the dealer to install a part that should have been ordered with it. I highly doubt they are going to agree to ordering you a whole new tractor though. Good luck.

Compromise. Pay the Extra money, but they have to sell you the tractor at a "used" price.

Kubota's order system checks for incompatibilities and alerts dealers when such is detected.

Sounds like someone was not paying attention.

Alternatively, the dealer arranged for a tractor to be transferred from another dealer.

Dealers do this for multiple reasons, one of which is to find a unit that has been sitting around at another dealer for long enough that Kubota has applied aged inventory pricing. The dealer can then pocket the discount.

If you will be blowing snow wouldn't you rather have a cab?

No way I would want a dealer mechanic splitting a brand new tractor before I got it. I would renegotiate a different deal.

You didn't order the wrong tractor, the dealer did not make a mistake ordering the tractor, his mistake was lack of knowledge when quoting the price. Grand L60 ROPS do not come with the internal gear kit installed from Japan nor can they be ordered that way. I just priced out a L3560 ROPS and the dealer figured in extra to split the tractor. Asked him if he could order another unit that had it installed and his reply was they don't build them that way from Japan, internal gear kit is only factory installed on cab models. His thought on that was Kubota took into consideration the extra time required to split a cab model would raise the price to much when a mid-pto was needed. Look at it this way, the price of a cab just got $1500 closer to a ROPS if you have to have a mid-pto.

The price put it outside of what I wanted to pay so I'm looking for a low hour used Grand L40 ROPS L3540 or L3940. The L3240, L3540 and L3940 ROPS came from the factory with the internal gear kit installed which I can install in about 1/2 an hour. I'm guessing leaving it out of the 60 was a cost cutting move.

Curious what Kubotas cost of that gear would be and to install it in every tractor. If you find out it's twenty bucks, that would annoy me all the more that that now want to charge me an arm and leg for something that was their mistake. I think I might tell them where they can install that gear. lol

I have the JD equivalent to your tractor transmission. Yes there is a "gear" assembly that fits into the side of the transmission to transmit power to the mid-pto unit. It's pretty easy to stick it in. Done.

I'd still question the need for a mid-pto for anything. I had a front snow blower and a mid-mount mower. Clumsy, aukward, slow and time consuming to attach and remove. I now plow for snow and have a 7' rear finish mower for grass and fields. If I had to have a blower it would be a rear puller so I can operate it directionally normal.
