GM trucks have slipped

I like my GM trucks, have owned maybe 20 over the years, all purchased new.My normal routine is to purchase every 2-3 years. Now that I am retired I only put about 5,000 miles a year on.Looked at the new ones and not too impressed.I had a client today that has a new 2019
double cab Silverado 1/2 ton,he really wishes he had his 2016 back.
Main complaints are the poor head-lights and soft rear springs. He says it rides good but lowers a lot with a load compared to his 2016.

My "Hobby"retirement job is running an uplands preserve/bird dog training ect..Keeps me as busy as I want to be.

If a half ton didn稚 ride nice what use would it be?
Not everybody uses a truck the way that you do; it doesn't mean that we don't need them. Yet as mentioned before, if you routinely ran the roads which I do you would quickly ditch that ton truck. Meanwhile, I would rather see somebody haul their lawn mower gas and propane for the grill strapped into the bed of their Escalade, rather than in one of those receiver carriers sticking unprotected behind the bumper.
I still remember the Pinto fiasco.

Obviously not but if a half ton truck doesn’t ride good what’s the point on buying a half ton?

Look what independent suspension did to the UTV market. You can't drive fast and smooth over rough ground unless your independent.

I can say that after driving the Ram, Ford and GM all in 1-ton SRW, the GM had the best ride, hands down.

Good point. I had taken your comment the exact opposite of how you meant it.

As well as Trophy trucks and Stadium trucks.

There are uses for a half ton without IFS.. Maybe for you since you and others use 1 ton's for you're needs that doesn't mean someone else has the same needs.. I have no use for a 1 ton and most don't.. The last thing I would want to do is drive a dually around..

People have a problem with someone buying a comfortable, nice truck to use for their needs and call it a grocery getter, poser etc.. I read it here all the time from the same people.. I buy what I need when I need it and really don't care if the next guy buys a 1 ton, I'm not riding in it...

What’s the use for a 1/2 ton straight axel truck? Either you want a truck to haul heavy load or you want something that drives nice. A half ton doesn’t haul heavy loads so it better drive nice. Maybe I haven’t spent enough time looking under half ton trucks but I’ve never seen a straight axel one. And my ton truck is IFS and rides much better than the straight axel tons I’ve drove. I see no point for anything lighter than a 1.5 ton truck to have a straight axel. They’re probably stronger but I’ve never seen any trouble from IFS ton trucks.
