EV are not cleaner then the energy source but you remove local pollution and that's is also a big pluss. When EV become just another type of car the status is like any other car. Here I live we are closing in to that 50% of car sales are EV and there are no status or green glory if you own one.

I have no issue being called a Red Neck. When I see how the City Slickers waste money, pollute, and see WHAT MATTERS TO THEM, it actually makes me proud. Saw a Mother and Daugher drop their three bags of milk on the floor at the Grocery Store Checkout. The Three tough bags are inside another bag. The Clerk had to summon someone to get them a new bag of milk. Call me a Red Neck, I'm just glad I'm not like those people.

Apparently the thousands of acres of solar farms are just wasteland devoid of any living life. And wind farms kill a lot of birds. Makes me sick!

We live in South Central Virginia not far from Blue Ridge Parkway in country. There's almost always a breeze...and AEP installed a windmill for about a year, then took it down.
From AEP site...
"coal-fueled power plants account for approximately 45 percent of AEP's generating capacity, while natural gas represents 28 percent and nuclear 7 percent. The remaining capacity comes from wind, hydro, pumped storage and other sources (17 percent) as well as energy efficiency (3 percent)."

A good friend has an electric car. It's interesting, quiet, etc. But there's no free lunch, unless you have a horse like we do. They graze, I don't think the poots are carcinogenic.

Red Neck is a subjective term ...
Prefer to refer to myself as an 'Aspiring Gentleman Farmer'. But my kids may not agree.

Cars 15 and 20 years old 135k miles each, they've given me no reason to retire them. Tractors something like 40 and 37 years old and they look it due to neglect by prior owners ... but then I was better looking 40 years ago too.

@Agvg - Markets of 150K cars, 5M people, with 90% ethnic , and a single Government authority are a lot easier to control, though it is nice to see them doing it.

Thank you for info.

We are not so many but still it's a interesting to see EV cars in a large scale in use. Large is of course a relative term.

Electric motors will replace internal combustion engines when they become more practical than an ICE over the long haul. We are seeing hand air tools being replaced by lithium ion powered tools because they are powerful with no hoses to get all tangled up or trip over. I can remember when a TV antenna was a status symbol or a window AC sticking outside of window. EV's are with us because of the technologies making them possible.

In KY currently there is no up charge to register an EV I learned when I got my tags for the Nissan Leaf today. Both the sheriff's office and county clerk office staff working with me asked how it works, where do you charge it, etc. The response has been positive and the interest is out there. Nissan only has large market dealerships set up to sell and service the Leafs but Nissan as done something right to have sold about half a million Leafs over the past 10 years.

I got my Leaf Spy Pro software this week and it is awesome because I can see so many details in real time but the Pro version does cost $15. Of course most vehicles are ran by computers today but the power trains and number of moving parts in an EV vs ICE are only a 1/10 for the EV's.

I think the forced power outages in California are making people think long and hard about EV. It's a glaring example of how ill-prepared our electrical grid is for any extra demand due to years of neglect, not to mention natural phenomenons.

EV tickle the feel good receptors in the brain for some...
