I owe you $10. You live in NY. You come to my house to collect the $10. Is that all you would ask for??
We had an agreement. In that agreement it is made perfectly clear that my property is subject to foreclosure if I don't pay.
No Ambulance Chaser lawyer in the country is going to take on this case.
I believe that's what this entire discussion has been about. I've already given my opinion, in my only other reply (#37) in this thread. in some of the cases cited in the article, notices were sent to non existent addresses because the house hadn't been finished yet. There is no reason cited for this, do it's hard to tell if the owners simply didn't have one on file, or the county simply made one up to suit their needs. At times it appears that the fox is guarding the henhouse. The Government doesn't own anything. The Government has no assets. The Government at all levels is a consolidation of it's residents. So we are the Government. The assets belong to us. The tax money belongs to us.
So somebody decides they aren't going to pay their share. What do you think we should do about it?
(This answer/question will probably backfire on me...but...in seriousness):
What's the signed agreement I have with the county that says they can take $299,991.05 if I don't pay $8.95?
....I hesitate to ask the above, as it problems gets into questions of "subject" vs. "citizens", etc....
"What should they (gov't) do?": Gov't sells the house at public auction. They take the $8.95 that is owed them (plus processing fees), they give the money that is not there's to homeless owner instead of stealing it. Simple.
(p.s.: Being from NY, and traveling all that way for my $10, there's going be some extra "process charges", but $300,000 of extra fees is a bit much don't you think?)

You got it. That's the way it's always been and unfortunately, that's the way it always will be.It isn't just guarding the henhouse. More and more and more, the FOX is making the rules, and the chickens don't have any say in the matter.
