I can't believe they did it (part deux)

You got it. That's the way it's always been and unfortunately, that's the way it always will be.

We "OWN" nothing. To prove this point just stop paying your property taxes.

If you do that we'll all demand that the government come after your assets. All of your assets if needed. We will demand that. All of us on this thread.

In my little redneck country world it is my responsibility to make sure my taxable property is properly registered with a valid mailing address and contact information. I am only asking for trouble to not do that.

Last year at this time we were just starting our house build. At the end of December I visited the County Assessor's Office and reported my progress. She asked me specific questions in regards to the house's completion. The next day she came and took pics. The progress was recorded and a taxable amount assessed as of 1 January. If I had done nothing I would have put myself at risk such as the house owners did in your above reference. I did not want that. So I ensured there would be no problem. That's what you, my neighbor and fellow taxpayer expect me to do.

I had my address changed by a company without my consent; which cost me several thousands of dollars with the IRS. As I said before, we don't know the reason why these owners weren't getting notified. If the bank forecloses on a house there are notices posted on the property and the owner is given the opportunity up to the date of the sale to pay their debt. Furthermore, in at least one cited case the owner was up to date on all of his taxes except for interest of $8.95 on a 3 year old debt. In my town that would never happen because it would appear on your tax bill. Besides, part of your current payment would go toward the outstanding debt so that you would be behind by $8.95 on this year's taxes, not from 3 years ago. The county is merely lining their pockets using sleazebag tactics, enacted by some of the same people who are profiting now. It must be nice to never make mistakes. I do, and understand that others do also. Last month a clerk gave me back $10 too much in change; I realized it 2 miles down the road so drove back and returned it. Apparently you are the kind who would have pocketed it, because everybody should be as perfect as you are.

And just try saying something they really don't like in the land of "FREE SPEECH".

Curious, actually when it became against the law to HATE. What's next, unlawful to dislike?

Kinda derailed there didn't ya??

I have made no claims of perfection. I have only gave examples of what I do in regards to my taxes. These things you expect of me. You would condemn me for not doing these things. And you would expect the legal system to go after me for corrections.

Don’t speak for me! I don’t feel property tax is right at all!
And to come and take someone’s home for 8 bucks and pocket the change is simply wrong no matter what criminal enterprise is doing the taking. If you read that statement as I am calling the government, agencies, politicians and anyone involved in the taking as thieves then you surely read it correctly! Every one of them who has been involved should be locked up and have the key thrown away!

I am simply saying these stories are never as they appear. Much more to the story.

Whether you think property tax is right or not isn't in debate. What's in debate is our expectations of our neighbors in regards to obeying the existing laws and paying their individual obligations according to those laws.

Paul, I suspect if you knew I was doing an illegal activity that cost you money you would expect the authorities to go after me?? Am I right or wrong?

Just for giggles, maybe someone here that is good at Google searches can tell us how many dollars of delinquent taxes the county in question has outstanding?

Just as I stated. Proves my point.

That depends on what exactly it is your doing, how much it is costing me and if your willing to share how to get away with it!

Not the answer you were expecting now is it?
