Off topic... But looking under my new RAM 2500 6.4L gasser today I saw something freakish....? A third shock absorber mounted horizontally to the top of the differential casting and reaching forward to a bracket. Like a shock for axle wrap... But I have a 5 link rear suspension with coils, not leaf springs. Leaf springs can see axle wrap and pinion kick under load. A linked suspension can't.

So tell me what in the world is this thing doing under my truck other than looking pretty?

That's a Power Hop Damper. I think having rubber bushings in the links gives some flex and bounce causing hopping.

Also have it on my 2017 2500.

Yup, anyone remember the horizontal dampers on the rear of fox body Mustangs

Ford put shocks in weird places at times... I'm assuming you're talking about the shock coming off the pumpkin and going to I think the passenger side, they did that on some Explorers too. some of the Rangers and explorers had a shock on the power steering pump bracket going to the frame to dampen the engine...

North side of Ann Arbor, Michigan last Friday. Came off M-14 freeway to see a lot of police activity. Dunno if this guy swerved too hard in the roundabout, or if the raised center section (possibly with a bunch of extra snow piled on it) was enough to tip this setup over.

I've always thought these 3-place hotshot car hauler trailers really do place the load (and C.O.G.) way up high. I suppose the risk is.... this. not a good day for the pickup driver. They were using a large crane to right the whole shebang a couple hours later.

And yes, we had an 11" snowfall on Nov 11th in Ann Arbor. Too soon, nature, too soon.

This recently happened locally. Always keep your trailer tongue-heavy!

Not onlycentered over the axles but the weight of the engine is hanging out back. Well tied down though.

Loading a super duty backwards will never go well.

I have been here trying to understand the mindset of loading it this way....

Only shear stupidity seems to be the answer

Stupid would be doing it if you knew it to be wrong. I think Ignorant would be more accurate.
