I like that truck Happy G. From the back it looks a lot like my Ram 3500, Iroquois , made in VT, body and all.

The thing I wonder about the vertical splitter is that you have to be able to hold the block together as it splits and then move it as if it was one piece. Also the blade is like a knife. What does it take to maintain that ?

Seems like when using my splitter I have keep the wood from swinging around sideways, I haven't seen a splitter yet that is completely hands free, and the Powersplit model has that log lift to use as extended table for when a big piece is split in half, i'ts quite evident the vertical one is making way less slash and trash with all uniformed wood if wanted and being self propelled is diffidently a good idea, that alone frees up a tractor and or ATV, and so yes I liking the tat vertical splitter.

The knife like splitting wedge is a good idea, I think it builds up less pressure and less force is used to go through a block, the result from that is it might get rid of the BANG effect and that is one sound I do not like when using mine. I intend at some point to make my wedge a knife like wedge adding another 2" for longer tapper, because my wedge is on the ram and it's almost 3" wide at the base so before the wood splits it builds up a lot of pressure then bang, the wood fly's off the beam. On most high end splitters the wedge is on the end of the beam and 1-1/2" thick at most. I do sharpen mine from time to time, and I prefer a sharp wedge.

Since I got the tractor, I've been using that to move big rounds on to my splitter when it's vertical. I've been splitting maple that's about 36 inches in diameter and I'm trying to not struggle rolling 16-18 inch slabs. I have the carryall on the tractor and scoot them around on the splitter. Once they're down to something reasonable for me to lift, the splitter get put back horizontal and I run like that.
If there wasn't spots of rot this maple would have been nice lumber.
Next project is a new spool for the splitter, the one on it has a drip. Probably new filter and fluid time too.

From the front I thought it looked like an 80s Ford :D Inquiring minds want to know about the dump and the truck.
